Development and progress have greatly afected our nature and environment. Discuss the extent to which development and progresshave caused harm and destruction to our nature and environment.Humanpopulationincreasesbytheminuteandinordertocater to this expansion, we need more land and new technologies. However, in reaching the goal of having a comfortable life, we oftenforget about other things that have been sacrifced or demolishedalong theway.Developmentand progresshavecausedharm anddestruction to our nature and environment through the loss of foresthabitats, openburning, slopedevelopment, global warmingandwater pollution.Development and progress had caused the loss of foresthabitats for wildlife. Forests are cleared for development andprogress like plantation and construction site. ome are cleared forthe building ofdams.Forest is not onlythe habitat of wildlife butalso the habitat for plants. !he existence of all these wildlife plantsand animals helps to maintain the ecosystem and also the nature offood chain in the forest. "ut now the homes as well as their sourceof foodof all these precious wildlife are destructed by humanactivities. #pen burning is defned as to burn something in an open air.#pen burning has greatly afected our natural environment. $t hasincreased the level of %#& in the atmosphere. #n the other hand,#& level decreased. $ndustries like logging often lead to openburning. 'hy do $ say so( !his is because, those unwanted waste oflogging like leaves and branches are disposed of by burning them.)nother efect caused by open burning is ha*e. !he %#&, which isreleased into the air, will react with +#& that caused the air to bepolluted. !hen gases, or known as ha*e, will form. #pen burning ofplantation also contributes to air pollution.)nother factor to the destruction to the nature andenvironment is slope development. !his usually happen forconstructionsofbuildingsorparkswheretreesarecutdownandhills are leveled. Hillside developments are highly demanded by therich, such as in "ukit Damansara, as it gives breathtaking views aswellas costs more to develop. 'ithout the coverage of trees, thesoil will becomeloosesincetherootsof treesareabsent. !heserootsfunctionastheagenttoholdthestructureofsoil together.!herefor, soil erosions occur during rain which caused by the streamof water moving along the slope of loosen soil.Development and progress of modern society have resulted insevere weather changes especially global warming. Humanactivitiessuchasburningoffossil fuels, deforestationandothershave released extremely ample amount of %#& into the atmosphere.!he carbon dioxide in the air has increased few times compared tofewdecades ago. "esides, agricultureactivities suchas poultrywhich are important in providing our food sources to feed the worldpopulation, contributes to global warming because of the releasingof methane gas. !hese two gases are heat trapping gas and hencecausing the earth,s temperature to rise. !his brings ------ weatherchanges andresultingingreat loss toproducehumanlifeandproperty.Development and progress also cause pollution especiallywater pollution which endangers marine life. Heavy metal such asmercuryandnickel arereleasedbyfactorieswithoutflteringintothe river and fnally to the sea. !he harmful chemical substances willbeincorporatedintomarinelife. 'henthechemical substancesexceeds a certain level, the marine life will die, which may also leadto the extinction of various species of marine life.$n all, we should never put aside the importance of keepingthe nature and environment at its place as we strive towardsdevelopment and progress. !he absence of the previous will afectthelaterinamatteroftime. "ykeepingbothinhand, notonlyeverything will be balanced but also prolonging the advantages wecan reap from both.
