Deputy Director, Housing Division
Office of Energy Efficiency
Current Eligibility for SDHW
• pre-retrofit evaluation performed prior to October 1, 2009– collectors that meet CSA F378 or equivalent, – regardless of capacity– Validation: collectors or systems
• Select collectors from the ‘Glazed Water Heating Solar Collectors – Flat Plate Collectors’ or ‘Glazed Water Heating Solar Collectors – Evacuated Tube and Concentrating Collectors’ sections of the List of Accepted Solar Collectors found at the ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat Web site: http://ecoaction.gc.ca/ecoenergy-ecoenergie/heat-chauffage/collectors-capteurs-eng.cfm
• pre-retrofit evaluation performed on or after October 1, 2009 – Systems that use CSA F378 or equivalent collectors AND– meet the 6 GJ minimum capacity requirement (as per CSA F379)– Validation: systems
• Multi-residential building– CSA 378 collectors – 3 Gj per residential unit– Divide by 6 Gj – whole number multiplied by $250 = eligible grant
• Systems used for more than DHW– Eligible
• System must comply with program requirement of:• System must provide domestic hot water
– Not eligible• Systems use for pools or systems used for space heating only
Systems
Systems
Determining System Capacity (MURB – other application)
• Option 1- if system is listed on CanmetENERGY Performance Directory of Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems
– use the Annual Performance Rating for the system
• Option 2- If collectors are used in a system that is listed on CanmetENERGY Performance Directory of Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems
– Estimated system capacity must be noted on client invoice
• Option 3- If option 1 or 2 does not apply, collectors must be part of the list of collectors from the ‘Glazed Water Heating Solar Collectors – Flat Plate Collectors’ or ‘Glazed Water Heating Solar Collectors – Evacuated Tube and Concentrating Collectors’ sections of the List of Accepted Solar Collectors found at the ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat Web site Collector used by system from table 1.2
– run a TRNSYS simulation to validate capacity
Future
• CSA 379 certification for systems– 2010
• CSA installation
• Energy Star – 7 Gj
