• 2nd Semester Freshman• Major: Exploratory Engineering• This class was very interesting, as I

enjoyed learning about how many devices function and how to identify various parts on a circuit.

• This class has enticed me to attempt to build my own robot with other functions.

• My career goal is to get an engineering job which is fulfilling and enjoyable.

• Advice: “All men die, not all men really live”

Biography: Alan Baird • 2nd Semester Freshman• Major: Switched from Aerospace to

Electrical Engineering this semester• This class was very interesting

(especially the lab) and was one of the reasons that I switched my major. I had fun learning about circuits and the different devices that an EE uses.

• I look forward to participating in other robotics classes thanks to this class.

• Hopefully I can be a successful EE and obtain a fun, well-paying job.

• Advice: Take this class and learn something new!

Initially, the robot’s sensors were programmed to maneuver it throughout the whole maze. However, the robot seemed to have trouble with the last corner, adding a significant amount of time to the run.

Design Methodology

In order to bypass this corner, the sensors were put on a timer (until it crossed the red line) and then the robot was instructed to turn around. The sensors would then be reactivated, and the robot could resume its run.

To make the robot even faster, the sensors were set to be more sensitive as it was going through the maze, and less sensitive when it had to enter the garage.

The run was ended when the robot’s light sensor was covered by the garage, and the programming told the robot to stop and play a sound.

Team Conclusions

• This class taught us how to identify parts of a circuit and how they are put together to make something function.

• It is a stress-free way to sample Electrical Engineering.

• If you want to do well in programming robots, you need to think “outside of the box”.
