Early Childhood Special Education

Richmond Community School District provides services for children ages 3-5 in our Early Childhood Class offered at Will L. Lee Elementary. This class is a special education program for children with delayed speech and/or language, difficulties with social interactions, decreased attention skills and/or delays in the areas of fine/gross motor skills.

Does your child meet any of the following?

Speech- Can people understand what your child is saying? Can the child make his/her needs and wants known?

Language- Can your three-year-old speak in three or four word sentences? Can your four or five-year-old child speak four to six word sentences? Can he/she follow multi-step directions? Can he/she answer questions appropriately? Does the child understand concepts such as in, on, up, down, over, under, next to?

Social Skills- Does the child interact appropriately with other children? Is he/she overly withdrawn or aggressive?

Fine or Gross Motor Coordination- Can the child color, trace, button, and zip? Can he/she ride a tricycle, catch a ball and hop?

Early intervention has proven to be successful with children having difficulties with speech/language, social skills, attention skills, or fine/gross motor coordination.
