Dyma fraslun o rywfaint o’r gweithgareddau yr ydym yn gobeithio eu hastudio yn ystod y tymor / This is a brief summary of some activities we hope to cover this term.

Cymraeg/Welsh:•Read ‘The Mabinogi’ – ‘Stori Branwen’ – two different versions of the story - research the history of the story

• Genres – story, play script and formal letter. Carefully study features of these genres and adopt in own writing

•Use of proverbs and idioms

•Develop use of mutations

•Ei/Eu – the differences (Singular/plural)

•Develop use of prepositions

•Singular and plural nouns – look at patterns

•Comprehension activities

Gwyddoniaeth/Science:

Forces and Motion• Recognising and naming various forces

• Discuss and investigate the force of gravity and why objects fall down

• Collect various objects and use Newton metres to measure their force.

• Friction – revise the effect of friction as objects move on different surfaces

• Investigation – what kind of sole provides the best grip?

Mathemateg/Mathematics:• Recognizing equivalences between percentages, fractions and decimals• Extending methods of problem solving• Weighing• Area•Perimeters• Measuring distance on maps• Developing multiplication and division

English:•Read a diary of a Celtic child – pupils to add own diary entry

• Genres – diary, biography and informal letter. Carefully study features of these genres and adopt in own writing

•Comprehension activities – Boudicca, related topics

•Investigate verb tenses - past tense for historical reports

•Use adverbs and powerful verbs

•Look at adjectives

Hanes/History:•Timelines and relevant events

•How we know about Celts? – Greek, Romans, work of archaeologists

•Where Celts settled and migrated. Celtic tribes in Britain

• School visits – a drama based on Boudicca, “Celt” – a day of activities

•Museum of Wales visit

•Hill forts – their positions

•Everyday life - Clothes, appearance, warriors, tools, weapons, houses

•Boudicca – Roman Invasion

Celf/Art:• Experiment with line, tone and colour

• Study and emulate Celtic artifacts and patterns

• Design symmetrical patterns for shield or broach

• Make braches out of clay

• Make patterns and Celtic knots

• Weaving work using weaving cards – link to “ wattle and daub”

Daearyddiaeth/Geography:• List geographical features linked to location of Celtic forts

• Study map of Europe and label the countries the Celts came from.

• Why the Celts chose to settle in certain areas.

• Locate specific places using 4 and 6 figure grid references.

• How land is used today – retail, inhabit, forestry, farming, leisure, education

Addysg Gorfforol/Physical Education:• Gymnastics – symmetrical and asymmetrical work on apparatus• Dance – create and perform a dance based on the theme “Shoe Laces”• Games – rugby and athletics/cricket

T.G.Ch/I.C.T•Word processing – create a front page for their theme books. Use internet to find appropriate images for

“The Celts”

• Graphics – look at and discuss graphic software

• Use their skills to create their own designs based on a problem solving task

• Experiment with their ideas and evaluate their own and others’ work

• Listen to and discuss Celtic musical instruments

• Emulate Celtic rhythms on tambours

• Learn and perform songs for the Eisteddfod

Technoleg Dylunio/Design and Technology:•Learn how to construct a jinx frame•Use tools correctly and safely•Design a roundhouse – use correct/accurate measurements•How artefacts were constructed and made e.g. chariots, weapons
