Welcome

Work with a partner to name 2 industries that have been radically transformed by the DiY Movement.

Icebreaker

DIY Dangers

• Injuries skyrocket when DiY stores like Home Depot and Lowes opened

• "You have to be really honest with yourself about what kind of experience you have for the project; you should really start with something small to feel your comfort level and to get a success under your belt." ~Angie Hicks, Angie's List

Nuts & Bolts

• Grassroots start at K12 level - DiY

• Vendor growth with products and solutions

• Increased focus on online methodology and course design techniques in teacher prep and other P.D.

• Now pendulum swinging back toward open source content and platforms (customization)

• Growing competition between traditional districts and for-profit online schools. Students can opt out vs. drop out. K12 districts are the pioneers in online learning and proving it's effectiveness, unwittingly broadening the market for for- profit schools. ( The Journal: Competing for the Virtual Student, Waters, July 2011)
