Vanilla Divides by Fractions

By Brianna Garcia

Let’s get started!

Let’s try 1 ÷ ½

• If we have one whole, • And we divide by ½ we get two.• We get two because one cut into two, leaves

us with two pieces.

See, two pieces!

Now let’s try 1 ÷ ¼

• If we have one whole,• And we divide by ¼ we get four pieces.• We get four because one cut into fourths,

leaves us with four pieces.

Are you getting it ?

Dividing Whole Numbers by a Fraction

• First start with getting something that is one whole . For example, I am using a hamburger.

• Now you have to think of a fraction. I’m going to use thirds. Look at how I divide my whole hamburger into thirds.

• From that example you now know that one whole divided by one third is three. Some people think that you can not get a number bigger then what you started with but in this case you can.

• Just so you are sure you know how to divide a whole number by a fraction we are going to do one more and this time we’re using a pencil into halves.

• We’re doing the same exact thing except we’re dividing a pencil into halves and from this example we see you get two!

Can you Divide a Whole Dinosaur into a Fraction?

By: Joseph Carola

The dinosaur is a whole you can divide a whole into thirds , fourths, even fifths . If you can divide any whole into any fraction as long as you still cut or reduce it.(reduce : to make it smaller.)

Now the dinosaur’s tail will be cut into fifths . Here is an example of a dinosaur’s tail being cut or reduced in fifths. If you put five fifths all together they make a whole any fraction can make a whole.

So I just divide a dinosaurs tail into fifths and you can also cut him into a half.(A half is a whole cut in two.) So now I have two halves.

Now lets cut it into one third. Now you see one third. We can also make two thirds or three thirds which is one whole.

PINKIE This is Pinkie! Pinkie likes to divide fractions! Pinkie is going to help us divide her cake!

PINKIE DIVIDES 1÷ 1/4 Pinkie has a cake she can divide into many

fractions. Pinkie is going to divide it into fourths and

halves. Right now we are dividing it into fourths.

Pinkie finds the reciprocal of ¼ and multiplies 1 by the reciprocal which is 4/1. Then Pinkie reduces the answer.

Star Star Teaches Dividing by a Fraction

By Starlena James

This is a whole candy bar.

• We are going to divide 1 ¼

We divide the candy bar into four pieces.

• So when we divide 1 by ¼ we get 4

We are going to divide 2 divided by ½

First we find the reciprocal of ½ which is 2/1 then you multiply 2/1 x 2/1 which is four.

Star Star wants to cut paper into thirds.

Now you know how to divide by a fraction!!!!
