Dish Solar Cooker

It is a concentrating type parabolic dish solar cooker with aperture diameter of1.4 meter and focal length 0.28 meter. The reflecting material used for fabrication ofthis cooker is anodized aluminum sheet which has a reflectivity of over 75%.

The tracking of the cooker ismanual and thus has to be adjusted in15 to 20 minutes during cooking time. Ithas a delivering power of about 0.6 KWwhich can boil 2 to 3 liters of water inhalf an hour. The temperature achievedat the bottom of the vessel could bearound 350 to 400o C which is sufficientfor roasting, frying and boiling. Thecooker having a thermal efficiency ofaround 40% can meet the needs of 10to 15 people and can be used from onehour after sunrise to one hour beforesunset on clear days.

Dish solar cooker is being fabricated and promoted in the country by a fewmanufacturers/ suppliers. The cooker can be easily dismantled and assembled byanybody and thus may be nicely packed and transported anywhere in the country. Thecooker is user friendly as the place of vessel to be kept for cooking is at a level which isconvenient for the people to use. The cooker could be useful for individuals in rural aswell as urban areas and also for small establishments like dhabas, tea shops, etc. onroad sides.

The cost of the cooker is Rs. 6000- 7000/- and it can save up to 10 LPGcylinders/year on full use at small establishments.
