In order to strengthen our hold on English Usage, we should know how do a single vowel sound change the complete meaning of a word.In today’s lesson, we learn the difference in meaning of the following words:

“Preview and Purview”“Purview” is noun which means “within the limits of what a person, an organization etc. is responsible for; dealt with by a document, law etc. That, however, was beyond the purview of the court, it was a diplomatic matter.Sanction a loan of Rs. 25 lacs doesn’t come under the purview of the Branch Manager.

“Pre-view” may be a noun or a verb. It’s noun form means an occasion at which press or journalists can see a film/movie, a show, before it is shown to public.I am invited for a preview show of “Greek Veerudu”.In the preview, the reporter graded the movie “Gunde Jari Gallantaide” four starts.

It’s verb form means to see a film/movie, a television programme etc. before it is shown to the general public and write an account of it for a newspaper or magazine.The exhibition was previewed in last week’s issue. Our Resource Person previewed the course to us.
