DID WOMENS HAVE A REVOLUTION ?

YES, THE WOMEN HAVE A REVOLUTION. IN THIS REVOLUTION

ALL THE WOMENS HAVE PARTICIPATED ACTIVELY. TO ENCOURAGE THE

WOMENS THEY HAD STARTED THEIR OWN POLITICAL CLUBS AND

NEWSPAPERS. AFTER THIS SIXTY WOMEN’S CLUB CAME UP IN DIFFERENT FRENCH CITIES.

WHAT WERE THEIR PROBLEMS ?

THEIR PROBLEMS WERE THE OPPOSING MEN.

THE WOMENS CARE FOR THEIR FAMILIES,THAT IS,COOK,FETCH WATER,QUEUE UP FOR BREAD AND LOOK AFTER THE

CHILDRENS.

DURING THE REVOLUTION THE WOMENS WERE IMPRISONED AND MANY OF THEM WERE EXECUTED.

THE MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT HAD SAID THAT ‘I DO NOT WISH THEM TO HAVE POWER OVER MEN;BUT OVER

THEMSELVES’.

WHAT WAS THE CONDITION OF WOMEN BEFORE FRENCH REVOLUTION ?

ALL WOMEN OF THE THIRD ESTATE WERE CLASSED AS PASSIVE CITIZENS. THEY DIDN’T HAVE THE VOTING POWERS. THEY WORKED AS SEAMSTRESSES OR LAUDRESSES ,SOLD FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES AT THE MARKET. THEY WERE EMPLOYED AS DOMESTIC SERVANTS IN THE HOUSES OF PROSPEROUS PEOPLE. MOST WOMEN DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO EDUCATION OR JOB TRAINING. THEIR WAGES WERE LOWER THAN THOSE OF MEN.

WHEN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY WAS BUSY AT VERSAILLES DRAFTING A

CONSTITUTION,THE REST OF FRANCE SEETHED WITH TURMOIL. A SEVERE

WINTER HAD MEANT A BAD HARVEST;THE PRICE OF BREAD ROSE, OFTEN BAKERS

EXPLOITED THE SITUATION AND HOARDED SUPPLIES. AFTER SPENDING HOURS IN

LONG QUEUES AT THE BAKERY, CROWDS OF ANGRY WOMEN STROMED INTO THE

SHOPS.

WHAT WAS THE CONDITION OF WOMEN AFTER THE REVOLUTION?

AFTER THE REVOLUTION FEMALE TAILORS ALLOWED INTO THE GUILD OF TAILORS.

NOBEL WIDOWS VOTED IN THE FRENCH STATES GENERAL IN THE ABSENCE OF A MALE GUARDIAN.

WOMENS WERE ALOUD TO OPEN BANK ACCOUNT UNDER THEIR OWN NAME.

WOMEN WERE ELIGIBLE TO EDUCATION BOARDS. LEGAL MAJORITY FOR UNMARRIED AND SEPARATED WOMEN.

WOMEN WERE ALOUD TO PRACTISE LAW. MARRIED WOMEN WERE GIVEN THE CONTROL FO THEIR INCOME.

DID THE DEMANDS OF THE WOMEN WERE FULFILLED?

YES THE DEMANDS OF THE WOMENS WERE FULFILLED. MEN AND WOMEN WERE EQUALLY ELIGIBLE TO INHERIT

PROPERTY. DIVORCE LEGALIZED [SO A WOMEN COULD ALSO CHOOSE

TO END A MARRIAGE.] IN A DIVORCE,WOMEN HAD A RIGHT TO SOME OF THE

COMMON PROPERTY. A SYSTEM OF EDUCATION WAS CREATED FOR BOTH BOYS

AND GIRLS. THE WOMENS WERE GIVEN EQUAL WAGES THAT OF MENS. AND THE LAST BUT NOT LEAST IN THE YEAR 1946 WOMENS

IN THE FRANCE WON THE RIGHT TO VOTE.
