Scripture Reflection Third Sunday of Advent
December 16, 2012 In the opening prayer today we ask God to see how faithfully we are awaiting the feast of the Lord's Nativity. It is an interesting transposition in which we place ourselves in the position of being the faithful ones. How faithful are we to the Lord's commands? How fervently are we being atten-tive to the religious dimensions of the upcoming celebration? We don't have to beat ourselves up over Christmas religios-ity. But if nothing we do for Christmas reflects the spiritual aspects of the season maybe we should reflect on what
we're celebrating, and why!

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
SOCIETY
Last year, because of your generosity, St. Vincent de Paul delivered 250 Christmas food boxes to the poor of the Cedar Rapids area. Once again we are asking for your generosity. Even with a dwindling food account we are going to deliver 250 Christmas boxes again this year. St. Vincent de Paul is asking you to share your loving care by helping provide Christmas food boxes for the less fortunate families of our community. Help can be given as follows:
1. Cash Donation or Checks payable to: St. Vincent de Paul Food Account Send To: St. Vincent de Paul Society 928 7th Street SE Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 2. Assist in delivery of the food boxes provided by
St. Vincent de Paul. Delivery of food boxes will take place on Saturday,
December 22, 2012 at St. Wenceslaus- Glovik Hall/Gym Building).
3. Adopt a Family. To adopt a family, call HACAP at 739-0028 or 319-
551-4329 before December 20, 2012. Food boxes are provided throughout the year at St. Vincent de Paul. So far this year SVdP has provided more than 1,700 daily food boxes compared to 1,168 this time last year and 858 the previous year. Based on the trends St. Vincent de Paul is experiencing, our financial resources will be strained more this winter than in the past. Thank you for permitting us to be a channel for your CHARITY. Thank you for your continued support, Jim Zachar- President - SVdP of Cedar Rapids Paul Brawner Food Pantry Director- SVdP of Cedar Rapids
