Students will use summer break to work on winning

BLACKSBURG, Va., May 17, 2013 – Three University Honors students will spend their summer working on technological solutions to deter human trafficking, after winning first and second place in a Campus Challenge run by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and partnering anti-trafficking agencies. http://www.vtnews.vt.edu/articles/2013/05/051713-uged-usaidwinners.html
People all over are beginning to take the initiative to address human trafficking issues which has become a widespread problem in our nation and the world at large. Once a person really sees how easy it is to be trafficked, they will begin to wake up and take notice. Our organization teaches others the signs to look for in a trafficking victim. We have started our own heads up awareness blog. http://handsandfeetofthelordfreedomdivision.blogspot.com/
With your donation or donated items, you can help a family in need and also help provide ministry
resources to families. Your donations also help us to supply biblical education and books to young
children in need or who are in search of spiritual guidance and direction. We have started a job referral
site in order to help needy families and homeless individuals to get back on their feet. We are looking to
do more in order to ensure that individuals are well set on the journey to self-sufficiency.

If you have a senior in your life that you really love and care about and that senior lives alone, maybe
you would want to do all you can to protect them during hurricane season.
Our seasons definitely need our care and protection.

SENIORS AND PREPARING
FOR HURRICANE SEASON
Be Prepared During Hurricane Season
Everyone should have a personal disaster plan for natural disasters. For seniors, this is especially
crucial. In the event of a hurricane, our goal at Five Star Senior Living communities is to ensure
that those entrusted to our care are comfortable both during the hurricane and in the aftermath of
the storm. We work to accomplish this goal by implementing disaster plans that consider the
worst case scenario.
Five Star has been preparing and implementing our Hurricane Disaster Plans for all of our
affected communities. Five Star management at the local levels, along with regional teams and
Five Star corporate staff are working to make sure we attend to the safety and comfort of our
residents, families and our team members.
Tips for Being Prepared for a Hurricane
In addition to planning care for all of our residents, we encourage you to prepare as well:
Be aware of impending danger. Have a weather radio.
Know the government agencies that address disaster planning in your area. Contact them
in advance regarding shelters and evacuation routes.
Keep your vehicle in good shape with a full gas tank. Bear in mind that traffic congestion
will be an issue and that public modes of transportation may not be available. If you are
no longer driving, arrange reliable transportation in advance. Your county emergency
preparedness agency can usually give good advice on transportation.
Have a bag packed with several changes of clothing and necessary toiletries. You should
also include snacks and bottled water. Place articles in plastic bags.
It is very important to have sufficient supplies of your prescription medication and a list
of these medicines.
Have a 3 day supply of non-perishable food, snacks and bottled water.
Remember to plan for other medical supplies, such as oxygen and other assistive devices
like walkers.
Having an extra pair on prescription glasses is prudent.
Keep your personal identification cards including your Social Security card, Medicare
identification card and insurance cards with you at all times.
Have a family communication plan. You will need contact information for family
members and other individuals to contact in case of emergency.
Place all documents in double bagged, reseal able plastic bags for protection from water.
Consider having a cell phone with a charger and an extra battery. Keep the phone off in
order to extend the battery life.
Remember that you will need money. Traveler’s checks are the best option and can be
secured in advance.
Make arrangements for pets ahead of time. Food and water may be necessary. Pets should
have identification tags and be micro chipped.

We will hear from one of the members of Dance Like David Danced praise and worship ministry
that made such a remarkable turn-around this summer. True there are still some more areas that
we would love to iron out before he returns to his home down south. I am going to be honest
with you, I didn't know what to expect being as though this same young man who is one of my
nephews was about to go to the boys home earlier on this year.
This summer I was able to talk with him and he was able to tell me something’s that were going
on with him and we found the culprit of his behavioral problems. This young man cried it out
and got a great deal off of his chest. It takes more than gifts and trinkets to father or mother a
child. A child needs to know that people in their lives care enough to take up time with them and
find out what is going on behind the scenes of the life that they live every day. A child does not
exhibit behavioral problems if there is nothing going on with them. Nine times out of ten,
something is going on in his or her home that they are resenting.
Our outreach is designed to reach out to teens including pre-teens that are at risk. Somebody has
to get into the trenches and do the dirty work. Our ministry consists of more than preaching and
drilling individuals, but we actually become involved in the lives of those that we mentor. We do
not send individuals back into the whims and wiles of life with just a sermon alone but we
actually get involved in the lives of those that we mentor to be their leaning post as they face
everyday life. Due to prayer and mentorship, this young man had a excellent summer thus far
and I give God all the glory and honor for that.

This magazine is created only to give the public a little insight into our organization and what we do on a
daily basis. From time to time, we will call attention to other organizations and individuals that are
engaged in some of the work that we also do. Each issue charts our growth progress where you will be
able to see how much we are growing.
