Komatsu’s new ‘PCCS’ ergonomically designed controlsystem delivers a work environment with ‘complete operator control’.
Palm command electronic controlled travel joystickThe palm command travel joystick provides the operator with anenvironment that supports a comfortable posture and precise machine control without fatigue. Shifting gears is easily carried out with gear shift lever push button control.
The system’s proportional steering controller increases safety andassists in precision operations. At the lowest speeds, the total range of steering directions is fully available, giving precise direction control.This makes counter-rotation turns possible when standing still. The range of steering directions is proportionately reduced as thedozer’s travel speed increases. This keeps turning manoeuvres withinsafe ranges, making sharp, unsafe turns at high speeds impossible.
All of the signals are transmitted via an engine and transmissioncontroller, preventing overload of the hydraulic steering system andprotecting hydraulic and mechanical parts.Because the controllerlinkages between the engine speed dial, decelerator pedal, and theengine are electrical, there is no wear of moving linkage parts.
Smooth and soft operation controlled by the engine and transmission controllerD65X/PX-15 utilises a newly designed power train electronic control system. The controller registers the amount of operatorcontrol (movement of lever and operation of switches) along with machine condition signals from each sensor, tocalculate accurately the control of the transmission for optimal machine operation. The ease of operation and productivity of the new D65EX/PX is greatly improved through these new features.
Engine speed control dialThe rate of engine RPMs iscontinuously controlled and checked bythe engine controller. This controls theengine fuel injection when needed,saving on fuel. Because the controllerlinkages between the engine speeddial, decelerator pedal, and the engineare electrical, there is no wear ofmoving linkage parts.

By controlling the fuel injection system, the engine controller optimises fuel consumption. It works on three levels:
• Passive: manages actual work condition information,provides an on-board operation manual, and reportsmachine history.
• Active: provides the error code and acts as a warningsystem, reducing expensive machine breakdowns.
• Measuring tool: The service technicians can see thevarious machine parameters, without a need forspecial, expensive hardware and software. Also makes technical information immediatelyavailable, optimising operation time.

The driver’s seat and console are among the mostimportant parts of the driver’s equipment.The comfortable, heavy duty, ergonomic seat, completewith headrest, gives the driver a secure and
comfortable work environment. For reverse operations,the operator can turn the seat 15° to the right and fix itin that position, significantly improving rear visibility andreducing neck strain.The travel control joystick, with its complete console,can be moved forwards, backwards, and in height sothat its fitted to each operator.

POWER TRAIN ELECTRONIC CONTROLECMV (Electronic Controlled ModulationValve) controlled transmissionUsing an innovative series of valves, the transmissioncontroller automatically makes each clutchengagement in a smooth way. The speed of eachshift is based on travel conditions such as gearspeed, engine revolution and current shiftingsequence. This provides smooth, shock-free clutchengagement, longer component life, and increasedride comfort. It also assists productivity because theECMV manages the transmission, allowing theoperator to concentrate on managing the bladeposition.
Hydrostatic Steering System – smooth, powerful turningThe Hydrostatic Steering System (HSS) is powered by an independent hydraulic
pump with engine power transmitted to both tracks without power interruption on the inside track. When the machine turns, the outside track moves faster
and the inside slower, for smooth, powerful turns.
Counter-rotation is available for minimum turning radius providing excellentmanoeuvrability. Shock-free steering reduces machine vibration and minimizesoperator fatigue. The hydrostatic steering system reduces track damage to the
ground to a minimum.
Blade control joystick (PPC) The blade control joystick uses a PPC (Proportional Pressure Control) valve.
The design of the blade control joystick is the same as the travel control joystick.The PPC control, combined with the highly reliable Komatsu hydraulic system,
enables superbly fine blade control. It keeps the blade movement independent from the blade load and speed of the machine.
The PPC delivers a proportional response to the joystick, giving the operatoressential sensory feedback of what the blade is experiencing,
and improving the precision of the work that is being done.
The work equipment and HSS system use the same variable piston pump thatdelivers force and flow only when needed. This saves on fuel and delivers
maximum engine power to the tracks, therefore increasing performance.
Electric outlets that match today’s technologiesGood communications help ensure top productivity. To keep the driver in
contact with the site management, the dozer’s 60W power supply provides a12V service for radio, walkie-talkie and mobile phone use.
Preset travel speed functionPreset travel speed selection function is provided as standard equipment. The preset switch enables the operator toselect fore and aft travel speed among three preset patterns: F1–F2, F2–R2 and manual shift.
When the F1–R2 or F2–R2 preset pattern is selected, and the travel control PCCS moves from forward to reversedirection, the machine travels forward/reverse with F1/R2 or F2/R2 speed automatically. This function reduces gearshifting time during repeated round trip operations.

The Komatsu SA6D125E-3 engine delivers 142 kW 190 HP at 1.950 rpm. This fuel-efficient common rail engine,together with the heavy machine weight, make the D65EX/PX superior crawler dozers in both ripping and dozingoperations.
The engine is designed to surpass European Stage II regulations, and features direct fuel injection, turbocharger,and aftercooler to maximise fuel efficiency.To minimise noise and vibration, the engine is mounted to the mainframe with rubber cushions.
Hydrostatic driven engine cooling fan Fan rotation is automatically controlled depending on coolant and hydraulic oil temperature, saving fuel andproviding great productivity with a quiet operating environment.
Easy cleaning with hydraulic driven radiator fanThe radiator core and the core on the front side of the oil cooler can be easily cleaned by running the hydraulicengine cooling fan in reverse. Accordingly, the cleaning intervals of those cores can be increased resulting in bettercooling efficiency.

Komatsu’s design is extraordinarily tough and offers excellent grading ability and stability. Newly designed large-diameter bushings, substantial track link height, and superior oil seals help to increase undercarriage durability. Serviceability is also assisted by the remote greasing of the equaliser bar centre pin. And the segmented sprocketscan be replaced individually, by hand, making it possible for one mechanic to carry out replacements at the job site.
The design also gives the driver a perfect view of the blade tips, making work easier and more precise.
The Komatsu undercarriage design provides stable operations with very low vibration levels. The reasons for thisare:• Two upper carrier rollers prevent the link assembly from jumping up and down.• The track rollers are double flanged, thus supporting the link assembly in the best way and reducing wear to a
minimum.
Low drive undercarriage Operator comfort Comfortable ride with new cab dampermounting D65EX/PX’s cab mounts use a newly designed cabdamper that provides an excellent shock and vibrationabsorbtion capacity with its long stroke. Cab dampermounts soften shocks and vibrations while travelingover adverse conditions, which conventional mountingsystems are unable to absorb. The cab damperspring isolates the cab from the machine body,suppressing vibrations and providing a quiet,comfortable operating environment.
New suspension seatD65EX/PX uses a newly designed heavy dutysuspension seat. Fore and aft sliding rails andsuspension springhave been newlydesigned toincrease strengthand rigidity. Thenew seat providesexcellent support,improving ridingcomfort. Fore andaft seat movementhas been designedfor all sizes ofoperators.
Operator comfort is essential for safe and productivework. The D65EX/PX provides a quiet, comfortableenvironment where the operator can concentrate onthe work at hand.

Preventative maintenance is the only way to ensure long service life from equipment. That’s why Komatsudesigned the D65EX/PX with conveniently located maintenance points to make necessary inspections andmaintenance quick and easy.
Preventative maintenance
Centralised service stationTo assure convenient maintenance, the transmissionand HSS oil filters, power train oil level gauges andhydraulic tank are arranged in the right side of themachine.
Monitor with self-diagnostic functionWith the starting switch turned ON, the monitordisplays on the panel, check-before-starting andcaution items appear on the right lower part of thepanel. If the monitor finds abnormalities, acorresponding warning lamp blinks and the warningbuzzer sounds. The monitor displays engine rpms andforward/reverse gear speed on the upper part of themonitor during operation. When abnormalities occurduring operation, user code and service meter aredisplayed alternately. When a critical user code isdisplayed, the caution lamp blinks and a warningbuzzer sounds to alert the operator of the developmentof serious problems.
Enclosed hydraulic pipingHydraulic piping for the blade tilt cylinder iscompletely housed in the push arm, ensuring damage protection from materials.
