Looking to 2014, any RFS volume requirement below
that amount
would be a significant setback
for
the biodiesel
industry and for our nation's goals of diversifying the fuel supply and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
It
also would
directly harm my company by shrinking the U.S. biodiesel market.
Therefore, we are requesting a reasonable Biomass-based Diesel volume increase above the estimated actual
production
for
2013,
or
at least 1.7 bil lion gallons.
Again, the benefits of a growing Biomass-based Diesel sector are clear:
• Currently supporting some 50,000 jobs and billions
of
dollars in
GDP,
income and tax revenues.
• Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 57 percent to 86 percent, according
to the
EPA.
• Diversifying fuel supplies so consumers
aren t
beholden to unstable global oil markets.
• Displacing imported petroleum diesel, keeping profits and economic growth at home.
In supporting a strong RFS, the Obama Administrat ion has helped make all of these things happen, and I thank you
for
that support. I urge you to continue the momentum next year with a modest volume increase.
Best Regards,
Ben
Evans
