HAPPY CUSTOMER HYDRO, KARMØY PLANT, NORWAY
Hydro Group is Europe’s largest producer of aluminum extrusions and one of the world’s largest producers of aluminum metal. Hydro called on Konecranes to perform
a Crane Reliability Study on the crane in their Karmøy plant in Norway.
The study of Hydro’s cranes found that the remaining lifetime of the hoisting gears was only 10 percent. Continued use of cranes with gearbox failures may have
resulted in catastrophic equipment failure. The Konecranes CRS team recommended that Hydro replace eight hoisting gearboxes in seven of the 10 cranes.
“OUR MAINTENANCE ACTION PLAN INCLUDES THE CRS REPORT. WE HAVE THREE CRANES BUILT IN 1986 AND TWO CRANES BUILT IN 1997. THE PLAN IS TO INSPECT THESE CRANES TOO. EVERY JOB WE HAVE
DONE HAS BEEN A GOOD EXPERIENCE.”
RUNE ULLENSVANG MAINTENANCE MANAGER, HYDRO KARMØY
