What’s Cosmetic Surgery?

Plastic Surgery

Cosmetic SurgeryUniquely restricts itself to the enhancement of appearance through surgical and medical techniques. It is specifically concerned with maintaining normal appearance, restoring it, or enhancing it beyond the average level toward some aesthetic ideal.

Plastic Surgery is a recognized surgical specialty and is defined as the subspecialty dedicated to the surgical repair of defects of form or function.

Risks You Need To Know

1. Hematomais a small, internalcollection of clotted

blood.

This occurs after about 1% to 2% of face-lift procedures.

2. Seroma: Seroma is an

internal collection of watery body fluids.

3. Necrosis Necrosis, or tissue

death from surgical manipulation.

4. Nerve Injury Any time the skin

is cut, small nerves are severed.

6. Numbness Temporary

numbness or loss of feeling at the site of an operation is fairly common with face lifts and tummy tucks.

8. Ptosis: or sagging and drooping, is not an uncommon side effect.

9. Death In cardiac surgery,

a 2% death rate is normal. Plastic surgeries deal with much smaller vessels, so the death rate is rare, substantially less than 1%
