Conversación y Repaso.

Cap. 3.

Hablaré contigo después de clase.

In Spanish the future tense is formed by adding the following endings to the complete infinitive:

Cantar +Comer +Ir +

-é -emos-ás -éis-á -án

The future tense in Spanish corresponds to the English will and shall:

“Iremos a misa a las ocho” We’ll go to Mass at eight.

It can be also used as a softened substitute for a command:

“Estudiarás para el examen de mañana”

The following are often substituted for the future:

1. Ir a+ infinitive: “Yo voy a cantar en el concierto del colegio”. I am going to sing…

2.The present tense: “EL partido empieza a las cinco”.The match starts at 5.

Irregular verbs:1. Caber: cabré

2. Decir: Diré la verdad.

3. Haber: Habrá una fiesta.

4. Hacer: Haré una tarta.

5. Poder: No podré ir.

6. Poner: Pondré música española.

7. Querer: Querré graduarme pronto.

8. Venir: vendré a tu fiesta.

9. Tener: tendré un examen mañana.10.Saber: sabré.

11.Valer: valdré

The future tense is used to express probability at the present tense when the speaker is conjecturing about a

situation in the present:¿Qué hora será? What time do you

think/suppose it is?¿Vendrá a la fiesta? I wonder if he is

coming to the party.

The conditional endings are also added to the infinitive form:

All the irregular verbs are the same as the ones in the future tense (venir, tener, querer, valer,…)

Cantar +Comer +Ir +

-ía -íamos-ías -íais-ía -ían

The conditional corresponds to the English “WOULD”: Iría a la fiesta pero no puedo.

It is used:1. To express a future action from the past: “El

dijo que no estudiaría”. “He said he would not study”.

2. To express a polite request: “¿Podría ayudarme?”

3. To state the result of a conditional clause:“Si fuera rico, compartiría todo mi dinero con los pobres”.

If I were rich, I would share all my money with poor people.

The conditional is used to express probability in the past. “¿Qué hora sería? I wonder what time it was.Estaría enferma porque no estaba en

clase. She was probably sick, because she was not in class.

Habría una fiesta porque había mucha gente.

I suppose there was a party because there were many people.
