• Constanța, historically known as Tomis, is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Romania. It was founded around 600 BC. The city is located in the Dobruja region of Romania, on the Black Sea coast. It is the capital of Constanța County and the largest city in the region.

In 2011, Constanța has a population of 283,872, making it the fifth most populous city in Romania. The Constanța metropolitan area includes 14 localities within 30 km (19 mi) of the city, and, with 425,916 inhabitants, it is the second largest metropolitan area in Romania.

The Port of Constanța is the largest port on the Black Sea, and one of the largest ports in Europe.

Ovidiu’s Statue is a monument in Constantza. It was executed in 1887 by the Italian sculptor Ettore Ferrari.A copy is situated in Sulmona(Italia) since 1925.

It is situated in the old center of the town, in Ovidiu Square, in front of the first building of Constanta City Hall, today the National Museum of History and Archaeology, near Tomis.

• Ancient Tomis (present-day Constanta) has been associated with the legend of Jason and the Argonauts who embarked on a long voyage from Greece to Kolchis (Georgia) on the Black Sea coast in search of the Golden Fleece.

• Maybe the most famous Romanian football player, Gheorghe Hagi was born in Constantza.

• Constantza is one of Romania's main industrial, commercial and tourist centers. During the first half of 2008, some 3,144 new companies were established in Constanța and its neighbouring localities, a number surpassed only in Bucharest and Cluj County. The Port of Constanța is the largest on the Black Sea and the fourth largest in Europe. The city also boasts a comparably large shipyard.
