Anticipatory set or Set Induction: sometimes called a "hook" to grab the student's attention: actions and statements by the teacher to relate the experiences of the students to the objectives of the lesson. To put students into a receptive frame of mind.

Actual teaching of the lesson – what the teacher does in front of the class

to present the knowledge, skill or process: Discovery through

exploration, reading, listening, observing, model the skill or process

for students, disseminate information through lecture, explain

new vocabulary.

Give detailed instructions of what students need to do to practice, closely monitor student attempts at demonstrating the skill or concept, monitor with a purpose while physically moving around the classroom (meaning you must explain and fix errors, and ask leading and higher level questions to guide student learning.) Allow cooperative /learning/discussion in teams.

Summarize what was learned and major concepts taught during the

lesson, do a final quick understanding check individually

or in teams, Close should take place at the end of every

classroom period regardless if the instructional cycle was completed.

Students demonstrate acquisition of the skill or

concept individually through assessment, project, task, lab etc. Explain grading rubric to students. The final step to see

if students really “got it”.
