Our poster isn’t quite finished yet – but here are our ideas…

• a tree= nature• trunk in recycled paper• branches and leaves= hands of everyone because everyone

is responsible (stressed again by the chain of people around the trunk)

• on the 'grass': sentences from songs in different languages to show it's everyone's concern again

• Leaves have to be added/ pasted, you can see them around the poster, and create a 3D effect. On these leaves, pictures with what we (can) do to improve our environment. As they will be pasted these leaves/hands also mean that we have to put forward this aspect of protecting our environment.

1.1.The poster is created by Kristian Kalov,11

years old. Varna is beautiful with its sea, fish and nice

weather. At school we do sports and plant flowers and

trees. At home we look after the gardens and use

solar and wind energy. We need a machine to be provided(in the

water)to clean the sea and refresh the air.

2

22. Kristina Kazakova,11 years old. At home it is nice to take care of the plants

and to live a life close to nature . At school we look after the school yard and

plant trees and flowers .On the beach if you see any rubbish throw it

in the rubbish bin.Aliens will provide a machine for recycling to

protect the environment because we don’t have such in Varna.

3

33.Todor Todorov,11 years old.The best things in Varna are the sea, the beach

and the sea garden. Without them our lifewill be miserable. We do a lot of things to look

after natural environment-at home-we do gardening and we collect the rubbish separately. At school we clean the school yard

and plant trees. Aliens will give us a machine like an enormous vacuum cleaner to collect the dangerous gas in the atmosphere and to pull the rubbish.

To Be Greener-poster My poster is made of recyclable materials. The box is cardboard and the alien hand is made of gypsum. Three fascinating things in the environment are lakes, forests and organic food on forests. In our school we take care of our environment by recycling paper and we have power-saving lights with motion detector. At home, we recycle all waste and we also have energy-saving lights. Glass and plastic bottles and metal cans we take on trade for re-use. We pick mushrooms and berries in the forests and in this way we use natural gifts. Aliens could translate NiksiPirkka- magazine for all the world’s languages, because the magazine contains a lot of different recycling tips.

We made our recycling poster from materials which had already been used once. We used old newspapers, magazines and an old artwork, which we found in our art classroom. There is lots of pictures in our poster. They all represent things we think will help to protect environment.

In Finland many people keep their homes warm by burning wood in the fireplaces. That saves energy. Fin ns also go hunting and we pick berries in autumn. In summer we farm potatoes, carrots, etc.

And we buy local food. We have many activities, we can do without hurting

nature. In winter we can go skiing and do other winter sports. In summer we cycle, go hiking, and so on.

In our school we have lights in toilet, which switch on and off automatically. We also recycle our waste.

My project for Comenius In my project the bottom is made at two pages of old newspaper and I glued

surplus paper on the coating. Top of all is glued pictures (what is taken from different magazines too) and everything else more or less interesting things. The hand of alien was made at gypsum and my own hand was a mould.

I emphasized four seasons of Finland. There can be also found some celebrities like Moomin or Mr. Lordi. There can see also beautiful nature of Finland. Forests take a lot of Finland’s area, so I wanted to emphasize that thing too. You can find lot of trees and leaf in my project.

I knitted little piece of fabric which is placed near the picture of piled mufflers. It’s nice little detail. That’s how grannys keep their grandchild warm here in winters.

What I would like to take from aliens was that they would do some kind of “magic spell” or something crazy thing like that and make people UNDERSTAND this situation where we are now and where that will end if we continue like this. I hope you can see it in that weird green hand…..

There was so little time to do this project so it was pretty challenging. In the end I’m happy with the result.

To be greener…  My poster is made of size A3 paper and every single photo in it are from

old magazines and newspapers. Photos are mostly about finnish nature because nature is the best thing I know about Finland. These nature pictures are about animals, lakes and forests and those are three best things in nature. I added there also a picture about old fishing huts (from 18th century) because those describe that how people of Finland have lived with nature for a hundreds and hundreds of years.

Pictures about carrots, cycling woman, electric wires and compost are

having different meaning. The meaning is that how me and people in our school try to be greener.

Compost and electric wires are for both, me and people in our school.

Compost is a symbol for all kind of recycling and reusing. For example recycling paper and organic waste. Instead electric wires symbolize energy saving. In both, my home and our school, people are switching off the lights to save electricity.

Carrots and cycling pictures are my personal acts for trying to be

greener. I have a little vegetable garden in my home. I’m growing there potatoes, onions, strawberries and of course carrots. That’s the meaning of carrot picture. Cycling picture means that my main transportation is bike. I cycle to school, store, gym and almost every where I go. I think it’s good way to reduce stress and to increase physical wellness.

Our task was to form a group of 6-8 people and make a poster about our environment in Birmingham. It was a little competition and every poster got presented to the class.

It was a great experience and I really had fun we had to explain things like how we recycle, what we do to help recycling and other eco-friendly things. Plus we had to make the poster out of things that have been recycled like bottles, cartons etc. We also got to explore some of the true beauty of Birmingham which I have never seen before.

The best part was just working with your group of friends and having fun and co-operating together.

It was a great experience and the Comenius seems very interesting I would like to do something like this again.

By Jack Knight, 9A1

We had to get into groups and make a poster showing Birmingham’s environment to an alien and come up with an invention that the alien could help us make. We picked the groups and did the research. My group decided it would be fun to make a robot called ‘herb’ that would help clean up Birmingham’s environment. He had the poster and the information stuck on him. We had 3 lessons to make him out of recycled household things, like boxes and old bottles. After we made the posters and ‘herb’ we picked our favourite poster from another class to be shown to the Comenius project. I really enjoyed it and would like to do more work like that with my friends, because we produced something creative that no one else thought of, we worked together and we had fun making it. by Hollie Walters

As a group, we all contributed to the poster. We added leaves to show our appreciation to the environment. We used recycled cardboard instead of fresh paper to save the trees. Trees are people too, they breathe in what we breathe out! They are very important to us and our earth because without them, we wouldn’t be able to survive.

We decided to show everyone else that they can also recycle and help the environment.

Dear Aliens',Welcome to our neighbourhood in

Birmingham, we hope you find all the environmentally friendly things that go on here.

We use energy saving light bulbs, use public transport, re-use our carrier bags and some even grow their own vegetables.

We would like you to bring us a machine that turns our rubbish into heat and light for our houses.

Thanks!

Dear Aliens,We would like to to come to Birmingham. It is

a city full of fascinating things to do – like recycling. At home we recycle clothes by giving them to people who need them.

We also recycle glass and plastic bottles. At home we recycle by turning off the taps and showers when we aren’t using them.

At school we recycle paper and plastic bottles. We would love it if you brought machine that

turned old sticks and bits of wood into paper so we didn’t have to use new trees.

Bye-bye

Dear AliensBirmingham is the second biggest city in the UK

and it has some great features like spectacular buildings.

There are lots of trees and plants which help attract wildlife like birds, squirrels and hedgehogs. There are plenty of bins which helps reduce litter. Everybody has at least two recycling bins, one for paper and one for plastic.

We want a machine that turns rubbish into oxygen to help us and carbon dioxide to help the plants.
