9th grade suggested courses and activities Take challenging courses (including honors
classes) that satisfy a-g requirements including algebra 1 or geometry, college prep English and a language other than English
Aim for A’s and B’s in all of your classes. Focus on your class work and homework to develop study skills you will need to succeed in college
Join clubs, play sports and volunteer
10th grade suggested courses and activities Take Geometry or Algebra 2, college prep English
and a language other than English. Consider taking honors level courses
Try to earn A and B grades in all of your classes. Studying hard in high school will help prepare you for college coursework

Please provide counselor with: - a completed hard copy of the school report, mid-year
report and final report - a request for letter of recommendation form filled out.
Requests for letters require a two week notice to counselor - a list of private colleges you are applying to, addresses
and their application deadlines
Historically Black Colleges or University (HBCUs) There are 100 historically black colleges in the
U.S. today, including public and private, two-year and four year institutions.
Some HBCUs have minimum GPA and SAT requirements that are reachable for most students.
Cost for most HBCUs is between $11,000 and $16,000 per year
