THE FAMILY OF William (Bill) Gaba would like to ex- press their gratitude for the support and prayers during this most difficult time. The family would like to acknowl- edge the professional cour- tesy extended and presence of the Saratoga County Sher- iff’s Department, NYS Troop- ers, local fire departments, lo- cal and long distance towing/recovery companies, ambulances, EMTs, para- medic vehicles, area busi- ness owners, friends and family who expressed their sympathy at Bill’s services and the kindness extended throughout; this has helped to lighten our burden and was a tremendous blessing. Bill will be sadly missed by friends and family. The Gaba Family is honored to continue serv- ing the public with its towing/recovery & auto parts business. A scholarship in Bill’s name is being formed that will assist in funding the education of young firefight- ers. Thank you for your pa- tronage and we look forward to continue serving you. Did You Know?Interactive electronics are poised to be all the rage for the 2012 gift-giving season, as Flying Super Grover® and Bouncy the Happy to See Me Pup® figure to generate significant interest. In addition, a classic interactive electronic toy is making a comeback this year. Developed in the 1990s, Furby® was one of the first interactive toys for kids. Its reincarnation has more expressive LCD eyes, more emotions and various fur colors. It even comes with an iOS app. Children can have fun teaching their Furby to learn English and respond through play.
Tree Lighting TipsLighting a Christmas tree may seem like child’s play, but time and again people struggle with the task. Untangling wires and wrapping them around boughs can be nerve wracking, but lighting a tree doesn’t have to be a chore when you follow some tips from the professionals. First, keep in mind that wrapping lights around the tree horizontally is more work and often doesn’t produce a multi-dimensional effect. Rather, string the lights from the trunk up to the top, working verti-cally. This is actually how the tree decorators at Rockefeller Center in New York City do the fa-mous tree year after year. This method helps eliminate tangled wires and empty spots. Remember to plug in the strands of lights before you begin to check for burnt-out bulbs and to adjust the spacing of lights to prevent dark spots. Think about varying light bulb sizes to add more dimen-sion. String an inner layer of small LED white lights to produce an inner glow on the tree before adding larger, colored lights on top to increase visual appeal. Just be sure to match the same wattage of the lights so that you do not have power surges and can prolong the life of the bulbs.
Did You Know?Making a list when holiday shopping can help you avoid spending more than your budget allows. Rather than be caught off guard, carefully make your shopping list and include everyone you intend to gift. Purchase one or two extra generic gifts just in case something comes up. It is much easier to afford holiday giving when you can divide your budget by the number of gift recipients rather than having to add on gifts after the fact. Also, in the event you are left with extra gifts that were unnecessary, you can return them after the holidays and use the money to treat yourself to something nice or donate the gift or the returned funds to someone in need.

Do Good By Donating Older GiftsThe holiday season is one firmly ensconced in the tradition of exchanging gifts. To address storage issues, some families choose to make charitable donations of some of their past holiday finery in preparation for the arrival of new gifts and goodies.
The average person has many belongings he or she may not need. According to the Self Stor-age Association, there are 2.3 billion square feet designated to self-storage space in the United States, and one out of every 10 households in the country rents a unit. Many financial analysts say that the self-storage industry is essentially recession-proof. That’s because once a person moves items into storage, they’re not likely to move it out anytime soon.
Many of the items relegated to self-storage units across the nation could be holiday gifts from years past. But rather than store items that will never see the light of day, why not help a good cause and donate such items to charity?
Make It A Tradition
Families can make donating items prior to the holidays a tradition so that it is something that everyone anticipates and looks forward to.
Much as you would decorate the home or shop for fancy holiday clothing, you can set aside a day for sorting through infrequently used items and preparing them for donation. Doing so can teach children the benefits of generosity, which often goes hand-in-hand with the season.
Work With An Organization
There are certain organizations that gather used or new toys and other items to give to the less fortunate. Begin with churches and synagogues and inquire if they sponsor or host a collection program. Schools also may hold item swaps to help raise money for parent-teacher associations or to donate to charities.
If you cannot find an organization that serves as the middleman for donations, take it upon yourself to
solicit safe houses, hospitals, veteran groups and more to see if they will accept your items.
Set Limits On New Gifts
Encourage family members to give back while gifting as well. While one or two new items will be appreciated, you may want to specify that donations to charities that you support, or helping to fund extracurricular activities, is your preference.
Organize Storage Spaces
Once clutter has been removed, use this opportunity to install new closet organizers, storage
bins, shelving, and any other methods of organization that you prefer. Sort and categorize existing toys and items so that new ones can be added neatly.
Involve Children In The Donation Process
When donating items, bring the kids along so they can see how their former toys and books will be put to use by other children who may not have the same advantages. It will serve as a good lesson and may help children walk away with a heartwarming experience.

Out-Of-The-Box Themes For Your Holiday PartyParties are an integral part of the holiday season, when friends and family gather to celebrate and give thanks. For holiday hosts, parties are a great opportunity to make the season even more festive with an event that guests won’t soon forget. The following are just a few themes to make your holiday party as memorable as it is merry.
* Christmas Sweater Party: Christmas sweater parties have grown in popularity over the last decade, when revelers have tried to outdo one another with the most outrageous holiday-themed sweater. Give prizes for the most outlandish sweater and let guests know early on so they can begin their hunt for a holiday sweater that’s so ugly or outrageous you can’t help but love it.
* Christmas Costume Party: Costume parties aren’t just for Halloween. This holiday season, consider making your holiday bash a costume party, encouraging guests to dress up as their favorite characters from holiday tales like “Frosty the Snow-man,” “A Christmas Carol” or any of the host of beloved holi-day legends.
* Caribbean Christmas: The weather come the holiday sea-son may be the one thing to put a damper on the festivities. To
combat blue feelings from po-tentially inclement weather, consider a Caribbean theme for your holiday party this season. Rather than wearing sweaters and long pants, wear
beach attire and give the party a touch of the Caribbean. Outfit your home in beach decor and serve food and drinks reminis-cent of the Caribbean instead of more traditional holiday fare like eggnog and gingerbread cookies.
* Film Festival: Holiday movies are another tradition of the season, so why not invite friends and family over for a holiday film marathon? Include classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Story” and encourage guests to submit their own favorites for consideration.
* Christmas Karaoke: For those who love to belt out their favorite holiday tunes, consider throwing a Christmas karaoke party that allows guests to perform their own renditions of their favorite Christmas carols. Purchase a home karaoke set and ask guests in advance of the party if there are any particular songs they’d like to perform.

Annual Christmas Tree SaleBALLSTON SPA – For more than 40 years the Ballston Spa Rotary Club’s main fundraiser has been selling quality Christmas trees. As has been the tradition, tree sales will once again begin this year on the day after Thanksgiving in the Curtis Lumber parking lot on Route 67 in Ballston Spa. Trees are sold daily from 10am until 8pm. Dark green, long lasting, and fragrant all trees are the very desirable Balsam Fir. The attractively shaped trees range in height from 6-½ feet to 8-½ feet and are priced at $40 or $45 each. There are also a limited number of taller trees, which are priced higher. Staffed with volunteers and supported by local businesses, proceeds from the tree sales are donated throughout the year to local non-profit organizations supporting those in need in our local community, and international projects promoting good will. This year the Ballston Spa Rotary Club will also be collecting non-perishable food items and new or gently used coats for the needy. (P)

SpiceDomestic Short Hair Mix
2 Year Old Female, Black/TanHello there, I’m pretty Spice, a tortoiseshell girl. Most
torties have coats that are black with a little orange, but my coat has a real lot of orange, quite unusual. I’m a gentle and mellow cat and I enjoy petting. However, I prefer not to be picked up. Recently I was living the stray life in Albany and
that was no fun. I’m glad to be safe and warm now, and I will be happy to visit with you when you come by.
BabeDomestic Short Hair Mix2 Year Old Male, Orange
My name is Babe, and I am a handsome orange fellow. My tail is very long, and the last few inches are nearly white, quite unusual. I have a lovely pink nose. My for-
mer family could not keep me due to financial problems. I am so looking forward to going home so I can be pet-ted and brushed a lot. I feel shy here in the shelter so I
need a bit of coaxing to relax. Maybe that’s why I haven’t gone home yet. But I assure you I am a very wonderful boy. I am a friendly and playful and I will roll and purr for you. Take me home and we can play ball together!
PatchesTerrier, Pit Bull/Dalmation
1 Year Old Male, White/BrownPatches is a handsome, young pittie/Dalmatian mix.
He is full of energy and eager to learn. Watch his video --- his tail never stops wagging.

Baskets of HopeCLIFTON PARK – Members of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga’s Women In Business Committee are reaching out to the community for help with their charitable initiative, Baskets of Hope, which supports the daily needs of Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). The Committee seeks donations of women’s personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. Donated items are as-sembled into gift bags by committee members and given to victims entering the shelter with the hope that the recipient will take comfort in knowing there are people in their own com-munity who care and want to help. Baskets of Hope, an on-going program of the Women in Business Committee, is now in its seventh year thanks to the support of generous Chamber and community members. Anyone who wishes to participate in this worthy program can do so by bringing donations to The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County Office at 15 Park Avenue, Clifton Park (behind the Shoppers World Plaza) dur-ing regular business hours, Mon.-Fri., 8:30am-5pm. Questions about the Baskets of Hope or the Women in Business Commit-tee should be directed to Chamber Member Services Manager Liz Roggenbuck at 371-7748 x108 or by email at liz@south-ernsaratoga.org (A)

THANK YOU ST. JUDE. Acknowledging prayers re- ceived from St. Jude for my daughter SRP. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your understanding and compassion to my prayers!
PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Thank you for favor received. C.P.

Four Essential Tips To Make The Most Of Your Résumé(StatePoint) Job hunting can be a frustrating experience. Many times you can apply for what seems like the perfect job only to never hear back. With most open positions receiving an over-whelming number of applicants these days, it’s extremely important to set yourself apart from the pack.
The most essential part of landing an interview is your résumé. Often your résumé is the only representation of you a hiring manager has. Typically, employers don’t spend more than a minute or two looking over a résumé -- a small amount of time to make a great impression.
“Landing an interview for the job you want is hard enough, especially now with so many people going after the same position,” says Michael McAuliffe, President of Family Credit Manage-ment, a non-profit consumer credit counseling service. “If your résumé contains flaws, from poor choice in wording to an overly-complicated format, then your chances of getting a call go from slim to none.”
Give yourself every chance possible to get the job. Make your résumé stand out among the crowd by following these four tips.
Proofread!
A misspelling or grammatical error on a resume could lead to your résumé getting tossed out at first glance. Use spell check and have a friend or family member look it over as well. You never know where an error could be lurking on the page.
Get Expert Help
Expert résumé review, such as the service offered by Family Credit Management, can be an invaluable resource for any job-seeker. Seasoned hiring professionals look over résumés to cor-rect any mistakes and offer advice as to how the résumé can be improved and be better received by prospective employers. Some companies charge for this service, but non-profits like Family Credit Management offer their expertise for free.
You can e-mail resumereview@familycredit.org to get feedback on your résumé and cover letter. You can also find contact information and more information about Family Credit Management’s services at www.familycredit.org.
Be Appropriate
A major red flag for hiring managers is an inappropriate email address. You don’t want to be remembered as a joke, you want to stand out for your abilities. “With free email services like Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo, there is no reason not to have a generic email address consisting simply of your name,” says McAuliffe.
Formatting
Hiring managers need to be able to quickly find the information that matters most to the position. Using an unusual format could cause some of your accomplishments to get lost in the jumble. Make it as simple as possible for the hiring manager and stick with a traditional format.
So take good care of your résumé. It is the first step to landing the job you want.

How To Conduct A Test DriveWhen shopping for a new vehicle, some drivers know exactly which model of car they want to buy, while others are not so sure. Though price and features often carry the most weight when making a decision, a test drive can narrow down the pros-pects as well.It is easy to become awestruck by the look of a new car, and even easier to fall into the eager hands of a salesperson. It can be confusing when comparing the dozens of statistics and num-bers associated with a car -- from price to horsepower to gas usage ratios. One of the best ways to judge a car is to take it out for a test drive. There are many things that a test drive can tell you about a car or truck. A test drive shouldn’t be a quick jaunt around the block. It should include a thorough examination of the vehicle, and the drive should be long enough for you to get a feel for the vehicle. It is important to take your time on a test drive and not feel rushed. There are also many other tips that can help you find the right buy.* Pick a time when you feel focused. Doing a test drive on your lunch hour or right before you’re expected at a meeting or car-pool is not the ideal time to make an assessment of the vehicle. You certainly may feel rushed and distracted by the other tasks you have to accomplish. Rather, pick a time when you are well rested and well fed and able to concentrate on the job at hand.* Avoid distractions. Sometimes schedules conflict, and you may have to bring other people, including children, along on the test drive. However, when possible, only include those people who will be driving the vehicle in the test drive. This way you will be able to focus solely on the car and not worry about what the other passengers are doing as well. It is also perfectly acceptable to ask the salesperson to be quiet during the test drive and reserve explaining the features and attributes for before or after the drive. This way you can focus on the driving experience.* Research the vehicle. It helps to go into a test drive already knowing the majority of the specifications on the vehicle and what the car or truck is capable of doing. This way you’ll be able to tell if the sales information you are receiving is accurate or embellished.* Try out different terrains. Most test drives consist of a short jaunt to and from the dealership. Salespeople also may recom-mend certain routes, but these could be tailored to get the best response out of the car. But if you’re familiar with the area
take a test drive on your terms. Try different road surfaces and speeds. Also be sure to make turns to gauge the turning radius. This can be as simple as making some turns in a parking lot.* Change lanes. Take the opportunity to change lanes so you can judge the visibility of the vehicle. * Adjust the seating. This will help you determine the comfort level of the vehicle and if it will fit your frame. You don’t want the car to be uncomfortable to drive.* Test the radio and the climate control. See how the car func-
tions, including whether it takes a long or short time to reach a comfortable temperature.* Have a passenger ride in the back. If you won’t be distracted by it, have a friend or family member ride along and pay atten-tion to the things you might be missing while focusing on the road. These may include road noise, suspension and the general comfort of the vehicle.A test drive is an important component of buying a car. It can often make or break a sale, so be sure to include it on your must-do list.

Albany, NY (October 15, 2012) –Do you have a love for animals and want to support a great local cause? Join with the Goldstein Auto Group and bring your empty bottles and cans to a Goldstein dealership and support the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society’s “Empties For Animals” campaign helps support the mission of the organization, including sheltering, adoption, education, advocacy and the prevention of cruelty to animals. This year’s goal is to raise $125,000, in honor of the Society’s 125th Anniversary. To reach the goal, the Goldstein Auto Group will need to collect more than 1,500,000 cans and bottles. The 2012 "Empties For Animals” campaign has raised over $73,000 thru Sept. 2012, an increase of $17,638 or 33% over the same period last year. The 2011 campaign raised a total of more than $74,000 and col-lected 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans, based on the originating distributor, which in turn gener-ated $.08 per can or bottle instead of the regular $.05 redemption
fee paid at stores. Monies from the program were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011. “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and support the 2012 “Empties For Animals” campaign. We would like to thank all of our customers and the members of the community who have generously donated to such a worthy cause,” said Alan Goldstein, President of Goldstein Auto Group.
