TRANSCRIPT

Going against the norms of

discrimination that is

perpetuated; in the end you do

good for all.

~ 2019 CLI Attendee

Equity recognizes that we

don’t all start at the same

place. It recognizes that

persistent disparities will not

be solved without targeting

certain opportunities and

supports to individuals who

start further behind or face

additional barriers.

~ 2019 CLI Attendee

We have a choice. We can stay

as we are and perpetuate

inequities and

disproportionalities or we can

embrace equity, and give every

child the opportunity for their

best possible life. This was

what I took away.

~ 2019 CLI Attendee

Follow your heart, not your

homies.

~ Dr. Victor Rios

CLI Community Update Thank You! To all of our thought provoking presenters, diligent

volunteers, educational exhibitors, attentive hotel

staff, and committed attendees - Muchísimas

Gracias for helping us create a meaningful 2019

CLI experience! Your participation, feedback, and

continued effort to create positive change within New

Mexico’s child welfare, juvenile justice, and

children’s court systems cultivates the progress we

are striving for.

As Natalie S. Burke reminded us, we are the system

we are trying to change, and the words, actions,

expectations, and perceptions we choose everyday,

make the difference between our intent verses our

impact.

This year’s conference provided an opportunity to

deepen our impact through the development of

leadership, advocacy, and community engagement

skills, while broadening our understanding of others’

lived experiences related to addiction, abuse, and

overcoming adversity.

Promoting purpose, hope, and change is each of our

daily responsibility. Dr. Victor Rios challenged us to

project our vision of a brighter tomorrow as a

beacon for others. Con mucho cariño! We at CLI

encourage you to continue to challenge the status

quo and to invest your power in the promotion of

empathy, collaboration, and equitable resolution,

with the goal of protecting New Mexico’s children

and youth through more inclusive and effective

systems of support.
