Staffing

School Website• On our school website parents can access a

huge amount of information about the school, for example term dates, newsletters, PTFA events, school staff and governors.

• The website also holds information about what your children are learning in school. Curriculum overviews can be accessed through the Curriculum tab on the menu down the left hand side of the screen.

• All of our school policies can also be accessed through the school website, these include, Attendance, Bullying and many more.

• Please refer to the Safeguarding and Child Protection policy.

School Comms

• School comms allows us as a school to keep parents up to date with events taking place in school.• Every Friday an email is sent to all parents to remind them about

anything that may be happening in school during the following week. • Emails may be sent specifically to the parents of children in individual

year groups, for example if Year One are going on a trip a reminder will be sent to their parents only.• It is therefore very important that the office have a correct and up to

date email address for each parent.

The Traffic Light System• Each classroom will have a traffic light up on the wall, with the green light

at the top and the red light at the bottom.• Each child’s name will start on the green light.• If a child misbehaves they will be given a verbal warning. If this behaviour

reoccurs they will be moved down onto the amber light. Further bad behaviour will lead to their name being moved down to the red light.

• Good behaviour will be praised and will result in a child’s name being moved back up to the above light.

• If by the end of the day a child has not been moved back up to the green light, they will miss five minutes of Special Time on a Friday afternoon.

• Children’s names will all start on the green light every morning regardless of which light they were on when they left school on the previous day.

Home learning Aims • To promote a love for learning outside of school• To extend the children’s learning • To enable children to engage in a task with their parents• To improve their speaking and listening skills• To introduce peer assessment

• Each individual year group will set their own home learning according to their topic• Each year group will set their home learning different times so please look

carefully at the date it is due to be returned.• When the home learning is returned the children are expected to share

their work with the class and discuss what they have done and what they have learnt. The class will then provide some feedback about what they thought they did well and what they could do better.• The teacher will then provide the children with verbal feedback about their

work and award stickers. • There are lots of different ways of doing home learning. This enables each

child to create a piece of work that is individual to their interests and abilities. • We value every piece of work.

• Mathletics is a web-based learning program that integrates home and school

learning via the internet. It is one of the world's most used educational websites. As an online learning resource it is in line with the next generation in learning.

• Differentiation - One of the core objectives of Mathletics is to provide content of an appropriate level of difficulty for all abilities. Teachers can modify and personalise a curriculum plan meet your childs needs.

• Assessment for Learning - Teachers receive all data how your child is progressing. This means that they can target their teaching both in class and individual basis to where it is most needed.

• You can access mathletics via the internet at :www.mathletics.co.ukEach child will have a password at the back of their red reading comment book.

Each child will have a mathletics achievement page in their Big Books so that they can be proud of their achievements!

Mathletics also provides its own reward system in the form of credits. The more points they earn the more credits they can spend in the mathletics shop for their avatar.

Every week the teacher will be keeping a record of who is accessing Mathletics at home. The child will be rewarded in school if they have been using mathletics at home. This will hopefully encourage the children to use the programme.

• Some of the activities can be accessed via a PC and a few can be accessed via a tablet.• Please come and talk to us if you don’t have access to a computer and we can make

arrangements to ensure that your child has lots of access to mathletics!• Parents can also register. This will give you access to your child’s progress.

Please do not help your child with the activities as this will not provide an accurate representation of your child’sability.

The programme its self adapts to the children’s needs and the children are shown where to find help using the programme.

Pupil Progress

In order for school and parents to work together to support your child’s learning we provide 2 pupil progress meetings through out the year and an annual report.

There are also regular sharing times at the end of each month. This provides you with an opportunity to look through the children’s work and look at their school targets at the front of their books.

If your teacher has any concerns about your child’s progress then you will be asked to come and discuss this at more frequent pupil progress meetings.

All teachers at Waynflete have an open door policy and are always happy to talk to parents’ about any concerns or questions they may have. Please see the teacher at the end of the day as mornings can be a little busy!

PE Kits

• Please ensure that your child has a PE kit and apron in school at all times.• PE kits will be sent home at the end of each term to be washed.• Please ensure that all items are named!

Playground Equipment

• We would just like to remind parents that children should not be playing on the school equipment before and after school.

Guided Reading• We are aiming for every child to read twice a week, either with the

teacher or with the class TA. Some volunteer parents may also hear them read under the guidance of class teacher.• The day they read on may vary so please ensure your child has their

reading folder, reading book and comment book in school every day!• We will tick title of book in comment book when it has been returned

and write a note if not returned. If still not returned week later a letter will be sent home and then £5 requested for lost books.• Same reading challenge this year: 5 reads at home each

week=reading sticker on Monday, 5 stickers=lucky dip!

Library books

• Children will visit school library each Friday. They will be able to choose a book and the title will be written in library card which will be kept in school as many went missing last year! • Need to have library book in bag on Friday so they can choose a new

book.• Unreturned books will be have a letter sent out to remind you to look

for them, and lost books will be charged at £5 for a replacement copy.

Year 2 Clubs

• These will be on Wednesday 3.00-3.50pm• Start 1st October-end November, then start again later in year when weather

improves.• Children will have a choice from: ICT Gardening and cooking Dance and Music Fun and games• Letter will ask for first and second choice. If your child gets their second choice

then they will definitely have first choice when clubs are on again after Christmas.• Run by teachers, not compulsory.

Year 2 Testing

Phonics screening Check• Any child who failed the Year One Phonics test will retake it next June. • They will all be receiving extra phonics work during each week in

small groups based on the Read Write Inc scheme that will also be used in our normal class teaching. • Progress will be reported on during Pupil Progress meetings.

SATS (Standard Assessment Tests)

• These are carried out in the term after Easter.• Children will not be aware they are doing anything different to usual,

as the work will be part of their every day learning and will happen in their classroom with adults they are familiar with. • Teachers are continuously assessing the children and the actual test is

just another piece of evidence that goes towards us being able to make informed judgements about the children’s level and progress• The level achieved is reported to you in the end of year report and

also to your child’s next school so that the teachers there know what level they are at and can plan their work accordingly.

• Scored as W(working towards), 1, 2c, 2b, 2a, 3 • These relate to our school targets: 1=band 5 2c=band 6 2b=band 7 2a=band 8 3=band 9• Average expectation for end of year 2 is 2b

Writing• 2 pieces of independent writing, one short piece (approx 30 minutes) and one

longer piece(approx. 45 minutes)• Spelling test-spellings will be covered in school within spelling patterns.• Handwriting- assessed from within the written pieces.Maths• Children complete a maths booklet. This can be read to the children (except for

the numbers) so that the actual reading does not get in the way of the maths.Reading• Children complete a comprehension booklet with a fiction and non fiction

section. Assessing their actual understanding of what they read.• To achieve level 2C or 1 some children will be asked to read from a book to the

teacher who will record their accuracy and ask questions about the story to check their understanding.

Transition to Brackley Junior School

• Received letter last week about applying for place at next school. Need to register on website by

• BJS Open morning on• November: Anti-bullying week-spend morning at BJS with year 2 teachers and Year 5

buddies and teachers, working on activities such as making friendship biscuits, bracelets, posters and playing drama games. Have playtime with rest of BJS.

• March: Easter activities at BJS with Year 3 children and teachers. Collect from BJS.• July: Transition week when spend time with new teachers at BJS in new classrooms. Parents

take and collect from BJS.• July: Year 2 and Year 3 teachers meet to share information about the children to ensure

continuity. Results of SATS and any SEN and other concerns are shared.• July: Parent information evening held at BJS where you meet the staff and can have tour of

school.
