On the 50th anniversary of the assignation of
President, John F. Kennedy, the members
and guests learned about the history and
background of the United States Secret
Service from Special Agent, Korene Houston.
The Agency has a dual mission of
safeguarding the financial integrity of the
country and protecting the nation’s leaders.
Korene started with the Secret service in
2000. Her 13 year career includes both
protective detail and fraud investigation. The initial purpose of the
agency, which was created in 1865, was to investigate counterfeiting of
U.S. currency. After the Civil War, counterfeiting was widespread.
Nearly one-third of all U.S. currency in circulation was counterfeit. The
protection of the President began in 1901 after the assignation of
President William McKinley. Korene, prior to Sacramento, was based
in Palm Springs and served on the protection detail of former President
Gerald Ford. Korene’s current assignment in Sacramento is to
investigate financial crimes. Nearly $100,000 per month of counterfeit
money is discovered in the region. The Agency maintain a database to
track counterfeit bills as to where they were they were discovered. The
goal is to find the location of the printing.

4 Way Test
Of the Things we Think, Say or Do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all con-cerned?
Jeremiah Smith promotes
the Senior Gift Giving
program and sign-ups.
SENIOR GIFT GIVING
The Holiday Season is now upon us.
The Club with assistance from the
Interact members, will once again
participate in the Senior Gift Giving
Program. The program will deliver
gifts to the disadvantaged seniors in West Sacramento and Clarksburg.
Shoppers will select an ornament that contains the holiday wish of a
senior in our community. Upon leaving the store, the shopper will drop
off the gift with us. We will then wrap and deliver the gifts in time for
Christmas. and undoubtedly provide some much needed Holiday cheer.
Volunteers are needed at the West Sacramento Raley’s on December
14th and 15th to work in shifts of two hour increments from 10:00 am to
4:00 pm. A sign up sheet will be circulated at the club meetings.
For more information, contact Jeremiah Smith or Ken Wilson.

FUTURE ROTARIAN:
Diana Quinones
Diana Quinones is a junior at
River City High School. She is
i n v o l v e d i n m a n y
extracurricular activities—and
one happens to be Interact, the
best one! This is her first year in
Interact, and she absolutely
loves the club. Diana hopes to
be part of the board during her
senior year and to be an active
Rotary member after college. Diana is currently
shadowing the Club’s fundraising chair to learn
the position. Diana has not determined where she
wants to go for college, but she wants to become
an anesthesiologist. She is working hard to
maintain excellent grades. Diana went to the
Rotary conference and found it to be a lot of fun.
This was one of her best moments with the other
members. Diana is glad she has joined Interact.
It is the best and most meaningful program out
there that truly "walks its talk"
