Cheetah
Status• It's endangered and
there only 9 - 12 thousands cheetahs.
Can people hunt it?
• Cheetahs are killed illegally, because they have very beautiful fur.
Size
• The adult cheetah weighs from 21 to 72 kg
• Its total head-and-body length is from 110 to 150 cm
• Tail can measure 60 to 84 cm in length
• It averages about 90 cm tall
Appearance• This cat is truly built for speed! • Virtually every part of its body
is adapted in some way to help it run faster.
• Unlike some other cats, the cheetah is born with its characteristic spots.
• There are no spots on its white underside, face.
• Black "tear marks" running from the corner of its eyes down the sides of the nose to its mouth and keep sunlight out of its eyes.
Habitat
• The cheetah likes to live in an open biotopes, such as semidesert, prairie,, though it can be found in a variety of habitats. In Namibia, for example, it lives in grasslands, savannahs, areas of dense vegetation.
Food
• The cheetah is a carnivore, eating mostly mammals under 40 kg
• Prey is stalked to within 10–30 m, then chased. This is usually over in less than a minute, and if the cheetah fails to make a catch quickly, it will give up.
Habits
• Hunt in early morning and late afternoon Cheetahs can not roar
• The chirp can be heard a mile away!
• The male cheetahs are generally chased away by other dominate males; however, they tend to stick together for the rest of their lives to insure protection, easier hunting.
Why I like it
