ChumpPoem about networking no-no’s and how to rise

above them

An unexpected encounter at a

business networking event.

It's great being invited to soirees;They can be personal and business too.It gives you a great opportunityTo meet acquaintances old and new.

So when the postman delivered my inviteTo a local business eventI promptly accepted the offerAnd off to the gathering I went.

There were plenty of people to talk toAnd the drink was certainly a-flow.The canapes were also quite tasty.Yes, the event was go, go, go.

Well, I met many interesting people.We shared stories and the odd business card.Then I joined a couple of others,Oooh, I should have been on my guard.

The intros went OK for a minuteAnd then the challenge beganCos one individual had decidedThat having an argument was their plan.

They disagreed quite openly and slurrilyWith every single thing that I saidNot because I was talking rubbishBut cos they were drinking and full of red.

I calmly countered their challenges.You see I've negotiated with the best.I've had years of business experiencesWhere your skills are put to the test.

When the conversation was overI politely walked away.I smiled to myself quite happily;Strangely this encounter had made my day.

And the moral of this story?Well, let's take a quick review.When you're challenged on any occasionDon't shy away; be strong and stay true.

STRONG and TRUE

Plus when you're at a business socialDon't be phased by a temporary bump.And make sure you stay sober and humanOr you'll end up looking a chump!
