The 3 different steps for long term archiving
• Separate information and client authoring : native to neutral format translation with no semantic alteration– Use of standards despite the gap between functionalities and standardization– Specific developments are needed (but everything does not have to be preserved)
• There is NO WAY to translate and to preserve everything• But there are ways to translate what is necessary for certification process
– Standardization improvements are needed : LOTAR project (Long Term Archiving & Retrieval)
• Keeping bit and bytes for years with no binary alteration despite obsolescence and failures / disasters
• Retrieving bit and bytes and retrieving information (with no semantic alteration)
