IN OUR HANDS
In our hands, above our heads, from our consciences, through our bodies, into modern times, to other spaces with
other people. Directing our actions, we shall conjugate the verbs: to collaborate,
cooperate, show solidarity...
And may the nouns: benefit, welfare, health, culture, resources, happiness...
fill us with satisfaction, honour and pride, because we conceive of them with other
people in our minds.
So may solidarity be like the sculpture that inspires us to reflect on the way that forms and materials, volume and texture
interact with space, like symbols that remind us of the multiple actions we can
carry out; caring more about others, more about those that have not what we
have, their context, the situations that prevent them from achieving it, from
enjoying it, their lack of opportunities.

SPACES FOR HOPE
In the field of visual arts, sculpture is frequently defined as "the art of shaping space and form". This is why I see the exhibition of the First Prize in Sculpture of the Cursol Solidarity Foundation as spaces for hope.
This call for submissions was yet another demonstration of how art is not indifferent to injustices, whatever type they may be. In this competition, all of the artists presented participated out of solidarity, choosing a non-profit organization with a charity project in progress to designate part of the prize money. This is something that adds to the satisfaction of winning a prize. It is a facet that ennobles the sculptors participating from 14 countries who submitted their works with the common theme of "solidar-ity". It demonstrated once again that art knows no borders or barriers
The culture of solidarity is what really builds a world and society opposed to the selfishness and materialism that is so widespread. Within it, art offers us lessons in values, as we discover the inner riches and we approach these spaces.
I want to congratulate the Cursol Foundation for this tremendous initiative and all the participating artists who have turned this competition into a major project. To help and support the arts and artists is to help everyone create a better space and a better world.
The 17 pieces in this exhibition show us that there is "space for hope" imagined by the following sculptors: Luis Carlos Aguas Lardies, Pedro Ania Gerez, Sama Arasian, Marta Cea Jiménez, Pedro Cherino Hidalgo, Lucía Chiosso, Paula Esplá Mansilla, Mª Dolores García González, Jorge González Velázquez, Angel Gregorio López Pérez, Alfredo Monge Lancho, Antoni Miquel Morro Mas, Ilse Ortiz de Manzanares, Plácido Rodríguez Bonnin, Antonio Tomás Marín, Michel Touma Achji, Sergio Vera Idoate..
Thank you for building a world of solidarity.

Toni Marí
He is an artist born in Jávea, where is creativity awoke one day by complete chance. Toni Marí attempted to give life to metal and wood from the age of five years, although his small hands could not catch up with his imagination. When he began to work for a blacksmith, at the age of 14, the fascination he felt for the malleabi-
lity of forged cast iron allowed him to express his artistic vision.
From his first simple animal figures to his impressive human images, only three decades have passed, going from a humble worker in an obsolete trade, to an artist whose pieces can be found throughout the world. He is a prophet in his own land, a person that lives and expresses himself with the humility of a man who fulfils his mission in life. Now his figures can be found in New York, in the City of Sciences in Valencia, in the Palace of the Prince of Asturias, and in exhibitions worldwide.
