The Edible Park Western Harbour Leith, Edinburgh2013

A new style to “eating local”

01

The Edible Park was inspired by the allotment demand in Edinburgh and Leith. This is a park design that focuses on healthy living and bringing communities together. A current brown field site in the middle of a new housing development, West-ern Harbour will come to life through the large orchard gardens and the long linear strips of vege-table planting in this new, modern design.

Planting Plan

The strategy was to connect the old abandoned light house to the park and restore it into a fresh local food café to encourage more people into the area

The long linear beds will be full of different fruit and vegetables all year, locally community schemes will look after it.

Wheel barrow visual conveys this is a friendly area which welcomes users of all ages.

02 Kirkintillouch landscape Reclamation 2014

Kirkintilloch is a derelict mining quarry that has lostboth its identity and quality. This plan is to reclaim and restore the quarry wall through methods of bioremediation to create new developments of small farming terraces. This will helpgain interest in the area leading to preservation of the main quarry building.

For safe access into the side, restoring the quarry wall is vital

The quarry floor will be allowed to flood and be lined with limestone for filtration

03 London City Airport Development

An urban regeneration and housing scheme deal-ing with the pollution problem in London by closing down London City Airport and creating livable space on top of the existing runway, as well as transforming it into a large, open park. This is a project that was both challenging and exciting.
