Cable Pre-Installation

OverviewTo ensure safety during cable installationand reliability once the cable is installed,you should confirm the following prior toinstallation:

• The cable selected is proper for yourapplication

• The cable has not been damaged intransit or storage

Review all applicable state and nationalcodes to verify that the cable chosen isa p p ropriate for the job. Also, consult yourlocal building authority.

Next, you must identify any existingcable damage and prevent any furtherdamage from occurring. This is donethrough proper cable inspection, handling and storage.

Cable InspectionInspect every cable reel for damageb e f o re accepting the shipment. Be p a r t i c u l a rly alert for cable damage if:

• A reel is laying flat on its side

• Several reels are stacked

• Other freight is stacked on a reel

• Nails have been driven into reelflanges to secure shipping blocks

• A reel flange is damaged

• A cable covering is removed, stainedor damaged

• A cable end seal is removed or damaged

• A reel has been dropped(hidden damage likely)

Cabling HandlingRemove all nails and staples from the reel flanges before moving a reel,and avoid all objects that could crush,gouge or impact the cable when moving. NEVER use the cable as ameans to move a reel.

When unreeling, observe recommendedbending radii, use swivels to preventtwisting and avoid overruns.
