GEOGRAPHY OF THE TAIGALauren

WHERE ARE TAIGA FORESTS LOCATED?Countries Taiga Forests Can Be Found In:• Russia• Mongolia• Norway• Sweden• Iceland• Finland• United States• Canada

THE PHYSICAL LANDSCAPE OF THE TAIGA• Lakes/ponds• Mountains• Rivers

HOW HUMANS INFLUENCE THE TAIGA• In the taiga forests, people• Do logging• Mine• Produce gas• Drill for oil

• Conservational groups are currently trying to stop these destructions to the nature of the forests

WEATHER OF THE TAIGA FOREST

Taiga Forest Temperatures• In the winter the Taiga Forest usually get as cold

as -65°F and as high as 30°F.

• In the summer the lowest temperature is 30°F and the highest temperature is 70°F.

• There are six months of below freezing temperatures.

Taiga Forest Daylight Totals• In the summer the Taiga Forest has 20 hours of

daylight.

• In the winter there is only 6 hours of daylight.

Taiga Forest Weather Pattern Effects

• Due to the cool weather and poor soil conditions the Taiga Forest has limited plant life.

• The most common plant life are the: Evergreen tree Pine tree Spruce tree Fir trees• Additionally, the cool climate of the Taiga Forest makes

it a hard place for many animals to live. Many animals that live there have thick coats of fur to protect them from the cold. Some animals hibernate, while others migrate to warmer areas to escape the very cold winters.

Taiga Forest Precipitation• . The average amount of precipitation is 31 cm

(12 in).

PLANT ADAPTATION OF THE TAIGA

PLANT ADAPTATION IN THE TAIGA FORESTSome adaptations that plant in the Taiga biome have are:• Having dark colors to get as warm as possible when spring comes

around.

• It helps keep snow off of it and helps with branches not falling off of the tree. The water drips off of the tree and onto the ground then the tree pulls the water through the tree from the roots helps when wind comes and tries to dry out the tree it does not dry out.

• The soil is acidic and affects this biome by it is a mix of the regular soil and the acid soil solution from the needle leaves.

• The climate affects them with extreme cold and other extreme weathers.

• The sun light affects them by giving them food and letting them grow.

Amelanchier alnifolia

Sambucus racemosa• Pacific Red Elderberry

Symphoricarpos albus• Common Snowberry

Rhododendron albiflorum• White Rhododendron

Tamarix chinensis• Five-stamen Tamarisk

Toxicodendron vernix• Poison Sumac

The Zoology Of The Taiga

Abiotic Factors That Help Animals Live in This AreaAn abiotic factor that influences the animals in the

taiga would be the dry climate. Because of this, forest fires are common in these forests. These forest fires affect trees such as the balsam fir and the jack pine. These forest fires may seem deadly but help remove trees that are not needed and old. These forest fires danger animals such as moose, wolves, and black bears.

Biotic Factors That Help Animals Live In The Taiga

A biotic factor that influences all of the animals of the taiga and everywhere would be the food chain. Every living thing is a part of the food chain. The food chain helps these animals because what they eat keeps them alive. What they eat can also hurt them. With these animals alive we too stay alive. If these animals stay alive they do things such as help each other. They help each other by creating places for others to hide.

Adaptations That Let Animals Live In This BiomeThere are many adaptations that allow

herbivores, carnivores and omnivores to live in the Taiga. I have chosen a specific two to tell you about. One of them is camouflage. Camouflage helps because with it, animals can hide from predators and hide to wait for a time to attack. Gray wolves have this camouflage. The other adaptation is a thick fur coat. With a thick coat animals can survive through cold winters and long cold nights.
