Building experimentation into

your product lifecycle

Experimentation and scale, two things we want to achieve, are in direct conflict.

How do you make them work together so that you can continue to push the envelope, while also meeting your goals and deadlines?

Time and space for innovation

“20% time”is so bullshit and cliche by now, and honestly doesn’t actually work.

Build 20% time into your projects / sprints / iterations, rather into schedules of individuals.

Team structures to support it.

Chart here of a sprint team vs. embedded innovation teams.

Hackathons. Seriously.

Means of measuring

Experimentation != doing random fun crap

A hypothesis, controls, results

Once-a-year all hands.

Smaller more team-based hackathons.

A plan for adopting experiments

Hackathons can be where projects go to die.

Actually have a support system in place for making experiments into tangible.
