Project Overview

• Features an extremely flexible200 seat performance spacewith adjustable acoustics for music/theater

• Enhances entire Brooklyn community byproviding a new performance venue, large rehearsal/special events room, lobby and music instruction/practice space

• Creates a new front door and entryto the Brooklyn College campus and a much friendlier and welcoming edge along Campus Drive

• Demolishes the existing Gershwin wing ofthe Brooklyn College Performing ArtsCenter. Whitman Hall to remain openthroughout.

Project Components

• Gershwin building badly in need of repair andupgrade

• Repair costs would likely be commensurate with new construction and still not meet needs

• Building lacks: proper scene shop, acousticalseparation between spaces, appropriatetechnology, contemporary teaching spaces

• Spaces not appropriate for the usesand functions they serve

• Negative impression in recruiting students and faculty

• Negative impression to the neighborhood
