People Dates Characteristics / achievements1 Iberians 3000 B.C. Metal working skills, first real civilization.2 Celts 800 B.C. Tribal organization, early form of agriculture.

3 Romans 43 A.D. They left: roads, sites of important cities (i.e. London), and seeds of Christianity. Also, The Latin way of life – villas, arts, language and political organization (later vanished).

4 Angles, Saxons and Jutes. 400 A.D. Easily converted to Christianity. They were brought with learning and civilization by the preachers from Rome. Their Kingdoms were reunited under Egbert.

5 Vikings 800 A.D. First raided England, to plunder it, later they began to win wide lands to plough and rule.6 Danes* 900 A.D. Danish rule. King Canute finally managed to unite the Angle-Saxons and the Danes. 7 Normans** 1066 A.D. Invaders from Europe, of Viking blood.

*The term Dane refers to those who inhabited the Jutland peninsula and were part of the broad term Viking. Therefore Danes were the “Viking population” who invaded England.*They were themselves of Viking blood.
