•What does Jesus mean when he

says these things?

•These are the basic needs for

physical life, let’s see how they

apply spiritually! 1 Cor. 2:13; 14:20

Jesus Teaches…

• Blessed = Happy

– We can experience happiness. John 13:17

– Don’t have to go through life miserable!

– Jesus wants our joy to be full! John 16:24

• Are they who = whoever

– This opens the door of opportunity for anyone

– God wants everyone to be saved. 2 Peter 3:9

– Jesus calls “whosoever desires” to come.

Revelation 22:17; 1 Jn. 2:25

Jesus Teaches… • Hunger

– One of mankind’s basic desires/needs

• And Thirst

– Another of man’s basic appetites/needs

– Just as sure and regular and intense as these

desires are, we should have like appetites for

righteousness.

• How is your hunger? Huge, small, none?

– What are you hungry for?

– Your life shows it!

What Is Righteousness? • Righteousness… in a broad sense: state of

him who is as he ought to be, righteousness,

the condition acceptable to God. Thayer

– Vine’s Lexicon pg.535: “whatever conforms to

the revealed will of God, whatever has been

appointed by God to be acknowledged and

obeyed by man, the sum total of the

requirements of God…”

• We today MUST hunger and thirst for whatever

God has commanded so that we may be right

with Him! Prov. 8:17; Jer. 29:13; John 14:21

If We Do As Jesus Says Here… • We shall be satisfied or filled.

– We shall receive what we desired!

• But know that we shall never be completely

satisfied! We will (ought to) develop an

insatiable appetite for God and His truth in

us always. Ps. 63:1,6; 42:1; Jn. 6:68

– How often do you eat or drink? Daily! Luke 9:23

• Without this spiritual desire and filling of

nourishment we will be either sick or dead

spiritually!

Develop This Hunger And Thirst!

• It is the greatest necessity needed for us to live

Matthew 4:10

• We all need it before we can grow! 2 Pet. 2:2

– Therefore our spiritual life depends on it.

• If we do not bear fruit we perish! Jn. 15:4-8

– This righteous fruit is dependant on our abiding in

Jesus. By keeping His commands Jn. 8:31; 14:15

– We bear the fruit of righteousness when we learn it

and do it (walking in the light)! Eph. 5:8-10

Jesus Has The Bread & Water of Life

• Come to Him and be filled! Jn. 6:35; 4:14

– He can fill your hunger and quench your thirst!

• Get right with God fallen Christian! Acts 8:22
