• The public wanted trails– They were already using existing

roads and pathways for recreation• Potentially dangerous conditions

– Trail user conflicts were increasing as trail use increased

Who Was Involved?

• From the public– Equestrians

• From the agency– Recreation planners– Supporting staff

Results of Collaboration

• The agency (BLM) agreed change was needed and took action

• The equestrian group worked with the BLM to build single track

Other Federal Agencies

• Organizational structure is similar– U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service

have recreation planners, District Rangers and managers

States, Counties and Cities

• These have parks and recreation departments• Meet with county Supervisors and the city

council
