Proposed Chair of Psychiatry in ManchesterPlans for a coordinated psychiatric service are announced

by the joint hospitals advisory board of Manchester, Salford,and Stretford. The scheme (described in the ManchesterGuardian of Jan. 9) covers six municipal and voluntaryhospitals, and includes the provision of home treatment andchild-guidance clinics. It is estimated that 150 beds will be

required for psychiatric cases in general hospitals. Theboard suggests that a chair in psychiatry should be set up byManchester University, which would assume responsibility forteaching and become the academic centre of the service.Rushcliffe Scale for Midwives and Mental NursesThe Minister of Health has informed Lord Rushcliffe,
