•Characteristic of Annelida•Classification of Annelida•The Role of Annelida for

Human•Pictures of Annelida

Characteristic of Annelida• The triploblastic coelomate animal• Its body shape is bilateral symetric,

segmented body and covered by cuticle layer

• Its digestion system has been perfect• Excretion system is nephridia• Reproduce system is skin and gills• Has hermaphrodite property but

fertilization happens from marriage of two individuals

• Live in various place (Fresh water, sea water, land). Commonly live freely, some lives as parasite

Classification of Annelida

Polychaeta Oligochaeta Hirudinea

Polychaeta(poly = many, chaeta = hair)• Has many hair grow in

parapodia. There is one pair of parapodia in each of its body segment.

• Live in the sea• This worm has been

distinguished male worm and female worm

• Has the larvae which cilia and move freely called trochopoes

• Ex: Nereis viren, Eunice viridis (cacing wawo) and Lysidice oele (cacing palolo), Arenicola

Fiji and Samoa Island

Maluku sea

Oligochaeta

(oligo = few , chaeta = hair) • Have fewer setae in its body

segments and has no propodia

• Its head is small, has no touching organ or tentacle or eye

• Live in fresh water or land• Have KIitellum organ

consist of all gland including sex gland

• Breathing by the surface of the body. Food nutrition is carried to the body by circulatory system

Ex :•Lumbricus terestris and Pheretima sp. (both is called earthworm)•Tubifex (water worm)•Pericaheta (forest worm)•Moniligaster houtenii (endemik di Sumatera).

Hirudinea

• Have no hair (chaeta) and parapodia in its body

• Its body has flat shape• In front part and back of its body is found

sucker organ used to stick to victim’s body and to suck its blood

• Live in fresh water, sea water and land• It produces zat antikoagulasi (anti

pembekuan darah) that called HirudinEx :

Hirudo medicinalis (lintah) → Eropa, AmerikaHirudinaria javanica (lintah kuning) Haemadipsa zeylanica /pacet) → Southeast Asia

The Role of Annelida for Human• Eunice viridis (cacing wawo) and

Lysidice oele (cacing palolo) is often consumted by Maluku island’s people

• Earthworm is commonly kept by people for food of fish and another cattle. Besides earth worn can help destroying rubbish to be humus so soil become fertil. It sa also help the aerasion process in soil.

• Tubifex worm which lives in organic waste water now is many used by drying. Tubifex dried is food for ornamental fish.

• Leech has parasitic to human and another vertebrate.

• Hirudo medicinalis (lintah)Hirudin dari lintah often used for formerly doctors to out blood and “nanah” from “bisul”.
