Bellville is named after Thomas and James Bell who immigrated from florida in 1822 and settled in Bellville as some of Stephen f. Austin’s earliest Texas colonists. They offered to donate 145 acres to Austin County for the creation of Bellville, the newly proposed county seat. The deal was accepted and platted in 1846 by district surveyor Mr. D. Charles Amthor to center around the Court-house and town square.
Churches, alogcabin, andawoodencourthousewerethefirstpublicstructuresin Bellville. Most of the early residents were farmers, and the town grew slowly until the arrival of the railroad in 1880. The railroad created a market outlet for cotton and other agricultural products, as well as providing transportation to Houston, Galveston, and other major destinations. This brought a rapid increase in population and business development. Within three years, the population of Bellville rose from approximately 300 to an astounding 1,000 residents.

Post oak Savannah eco-region: The original plant community associated with this region was a savannah dominated by native bunch grasses and forbs with scattered clumps of trees, primarily post oaks. forested areas were generally restricted to bottomlands along major rivers and creeks, orinareasprotectedfromfire.
This is essential to choose proper plant materials for a site.
These plant materials tend to be lower maintenance, often re-quiring less water and reducing the amount of chemicals needed to keep the plant healthy.
The use of these materials creates native ecosystems providing a habitat for local wildlife.

(33b)The Southern Post oak Savannah eco-region
The eco-region has more woods and forest than the adjacent prairie eco-regions (32 and 34), and consists of mostly hardwoods compared to the pines to the east in eco-region 35. His-torically a post oak savanna, current land cover is a mix of post oak woods, improved pas-ture, and rangeland, with some invasive mesquite to the south.
A thick understory of Yaupon and eastern Red Cedar occurs in some parts. Many areas of this region have more dissected and irregular topography than eco-region 33a to the north.
The soils generally have an ustic soil moisture regime compared to udic in eco-region 33a, and more sand and sandy loam surface textures. It is underlain by Miocene, oligocene, eo-cene, and Paleocene sediments.

PARADe CoRRIDoR - eXISTInG ConDITIonS
The parade corridor runs from the Courthouse to the fairgrounds. The to-tal distance is about 0.65 miles (about 20-minute-walking distance), pass-ing through e Main Street and e Hill Street.
The inferior quality of walkability along the corridor is due to the lack of continuous sidewalks, shade, way-findingorientation,andcrosswalksatthetrafficintersections.Thefollowinggoals are established for the parade corridor:
To make streetscape improvements that -increase walkability along the corridor
To enhance the visual quality & give the -corridor a stronger identity
To accommodate functional needs associ- -ated with the parade
