BBC 6 Music Station Performance Report Quarter 3 2015
Contents RAJAR Q2 2015 | BBC 6 Music - 3 Month Weight
Summary • Record reach for 6 Music at 2.19m. This was
up +133k/+6% on last quarter and
+194k/+10% on the year. 6 Music secures
the title of the biggest music UK digital only
station. 4Extra have secured the largest UK
digital only station at 2.2m.
• 6 Music’s market share also achieved a
record at 2%, up +0.2% pt on the quarter
and up +0.2% pt on the year.
• Highest average hours per listener on
record at 9 hours and 23 minutes; up 15
minutes on the quarter and up a significant
11 minutes on the year. Highest level for a
digital only station.
• The average age of the 6 Music listener has
remained stable since last quarter at 42.
This is up 2 yrs on the year.
• Reach of those aged 40-55 was the largest
on record at 969k; network is doing well
among this audience target of ‘Mature
Music Lovers’.
• 6 Music’s profile has become slightly less
male this quarter; 59% are male, -2%pts on
Q and Y. Male reach was at its highest on
record at 1.3m. Female reach was 890k, up
by +100k/13% on the Q and +119k/15% on
the Y.
• The station’s socio demographic profile is
skewing marginally less ABC1 this quarter:
72% are ABC1, down -2% pts on the quarter.
C2DE’s make up 28% of the audience, up
+2% pts on the quarter.
• The network has increased its reach with
BAME audiences to the highest on record at
242k.
• DAB remains a key digital platform for 6
Music with 61% of all listening on the
platform; +1% pt shift since last quarter.
