In the late sixteenth century it was a sound based on the instrumental families that had been developed since the

medieval period.

Sound

The melody was sung mainly, but around 1625 they began to appear collections of sonatas for solo and continuo instrument, especially for

violin, an instrument with a long tradition in northern Italy. The family of violins

had a contemporary development to Violas shrimp during the XVI century. Unlike the latter had no frets, but as

happened with those was made following the scheme of family sizes

and voices.

Melody

For 1650 they were already made in Germany instruments of these styles, made with the same technology as those produce in the workshop of Cremona by Guarneri, Stradivari or Amati.

Around this time in Italy began to popularize the concept of concerto, played basically a set of violins and violas with a continuous bass guitar. This Italian scheme developed for the early XVIII century in an

international style with strong roots especially in France and

Germany.

History

The set of strings of the French court: "24 violins of the

King", also called grande bande, were expanded with a group of oboes and flutes, due

to the French tradition of manufacturing these

instruments, exemplified in the late XVII century early XVIII

composers and producers like Michael Philidor or Hotteterre

brothers.

In the same way, so popular instruments like the flute also

made as families were used as soloist instruments or as part of

the instrumental group already mentioned.

Another important contribution was instrumental group of brass

instruments. Natural trumpets and horns were added to the previous ensemble enriching its timbre and

sonority.
