TRANSCRIPT

INTRODUCTIONOur work to reintroduce two-way traffic flow on Baker Street and Gloucester Place and improve the area for pedestrians and cyclists is progressing well, with work already completed on a number of junctions on Gloucester Place and the surrounding streets. Phase 1 works are due to be completed in mid-December 2017.

PHASE 2 WORKSPhase 2 works are planned to start on 8 January 2018 and will continue until May 2018. These works are mainly focussed on Marylebone Road between Baker Street and Balcombe Street, but they will also cover the junctions of Park Road / Gloucester Place, Baker Street / Crawford Street and the southern section of Portman Square. During this period, one-lane closures will be in place along Marylebone Road, Park Road and Baker Street.

If you are driving during peak hours, lengthy delays are expected (of at least 20 minutes) along Marylebone Road, on the approaches to the works areas. If you need to drive, please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey. Alternatively, consider using public transport.

More details about Phase 3 works will be provided in Spring 2018.

PLANNING YOUR TRAVEL DURING THE WORKSSome footways will be temporarily closed during the works. Pedestrians will be redirected onto temporary footways on the carriageway and protected by barriers and traffic cones. Shops and businesses will be open as normal and these barriers will be low-level to ensure good visibility of shop frontages.

All footway works outside building frontages will be completed in small sections to ensure minimal disruption and enable continuous access.

Cyclists will still be able to travel along Baker Street and Gloucester Place though adjacent roads may offer a more pleasant journey while the works continue.

Baker Street and Gloucester Place will continue to operate one-way and remain open to traffic while the works continue. Temporary changes will apply at times, including temporary lane closures, turning restrictions and some parking, loading and bus stop suspensions.

GENERAL INFORMATION Access to all buildings and shops will be maintained at all times. Access for emergency vehicles will not be affected.

Our contractors will follow working practices that are safe and efficient. Noise will be minimised where possible by limiting particularly noisy works to certain hours.

OTHER WORKS IN THE AREA Thames Water will continue strengthening works to the sewer pipes on Baker Street between Porter Street and Marylebone Road. Some parking and loading bays will be restricted. Parking suspensions will apply. We will be working in collaboration with Thames Water to minimise disruption along the Marylebone Road corridor. Please visit www.thameswater.co.uk for more information about these works.

ABOUT THE SCHEMEWestminster City Council, in partnership with Transport for London, Baker Street Quarter Partnership and The Portman Estate, is delivering this project to transform Baker Street and Gloucester Place into pleasant streets where people can get about easily and safely, relax and spend time. By reintroducing two way traffic flow along Baker Street and Gloucester Place and providing improvements for pedestrians and cyclists, the scheme will make the Baker Street area more accessible and restore the unique Marylebone character.
