Portuguese botanist and professor.
He also was the director of the Botanical Garden in Coimbra
His two best known books are Flora Lusitanica and Phytographia Lusitaniae Selectior. They were the first lengthy descriptions of native Portuguese plants. His statue in the Botanical Garden.
A High School in Coimbra was named after him.
The Broteriana Society was founded in his honour.
