What is attitude ?

A manner of thinking, felling , or behaving that reflect a state of mind or disposition.

What is Aptitude ?

Aptitude is an innate, learned or acquired ability .

A natural ability to do something

A natural tendency.

Stephen D Krashen: He university of Southern California is an expert in the field of linguistics , specializing in theories of learning acquisition and development.

Aptitude and attitude , providing a parsimonious explanation for what had appeared to be a strange finding : both language Aptitude (as measured by standard Tests) and Attitude (affective variables) appear to be related to second language achievement, but are not related to each other.

It is possible to have high aptitude and low attitude, low aptitude and high attitude, or both high, or both low.

Aptitude : Foreign language aptitude, which Carroll(1973) defines as the “rate at which persons at the secondary school, university and adult level learn to creterion.”

Three Major components of modern Aptitude tests:

Phonetic coding ability

Grammatical sensitivity

Individual ability

• Is the ability to store new language sounds in memory.

• Patterning of sentences in a language

• Demonstrate awareness

Attitudinal factors that relate to second language acquisition will be those that perform one or both functions.1.

They are simply factors that give confidence acquires to communicate with speakers of the target language, and thereby get hold of the necessary input, or intake, for language acquisition.

Attitudinal factors relating to acquisition will be those that make possible the performer to make the most

of the language heard for acquisition.

Enable the performer

Undoubtedly, acquisition is central and compulsory for real skill in a second language and learning is a useful increase available only in certain situation.
