•  originally started as a database exclusively for ancient sculpture

•  more objects of different categories and increased complexity

needed higher request à decision: use of international web

standards: TEI/ Dublin Core/ CidocCRM/ PMH/ XML

•  Desire to support the open linked data web and to be part of

different webportals such as Ariadne

efforts within three example projects:

1.  Emagines:

glas negatives digitized, implementend by using CRM and

integrated in other web resources

2. iDAI.Bookbrowser, Reception of Antiquity in a Semantic Network:

engraved prints from the 16th and 19th century visible and

searchable by the TEI-Viewer offering meta-datas, OCR and further

links

3. The Berlin Sculpture-Network:

online catalogue of the Antiquities Collection of the SBM with about

2,600 objects accessible and visible in arachne

Arachne in numbers:

•  1,7 milion images registered of which 1.400.000 are visible for everyone

•  approximately 11.000 registered users can access 700.000 book pages in

about 3.650 books as well as 220.000 objects and buildings and 20.000

topographies

•  contextualisation given by approximately 3.200.000 relations between

arachne records
