KATERINa APALE
Written by Chauntelle Roelandts
Edited by Carina Sellwood
Designed by Sibylle Schwerer
Katerina Apale was born and raised in Riga, Latvia. She says, the fact that her mother was an artist explains why she started to paint before she could walk.
Throughout high school, art class was always a must and as soon as her final year had finished she enrolled at The Art Academy of Latvia, specializing in Textile Art. Her tertiary studies earned her a Master of Arts in Humanities, before she went on to achieve a Master of Education at the Daugavpils University.
Combining her two degrees, Apale took on work as a lecturer at The Art Academy of Latvia before establishing her own art studio in Riga, where she shared her passion and artistic expertise with both adults and children alike.
Apale’s colourful works have hung in solo and group exhibitions in galleries all over the world in countries including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Russia, Belarus, Austria, Germany, and now Australia.

In 2014 she migrated here with her family and has since immersed herself into the Australian art community – now a member of the Central Coast Art Society. This year, her work has been exhibited as part of the Central Coast Artists Exhibition at Erina Fair Library.
Here at Aponia, we are quietly thrilled that this great talent has arrived on our shores.
