Beforesurfacepreparationbeginsthesurfaceshallbefreeofoil,grease,dirt,chemicals,andwatersolublecontaminants
(i.e.chlorides),
all
of
which
may
be
removed
with
solvent
cleanersandfreshwaterrinsing.
SSPCSP1SOLVENTCLEANING SolventCleaningisamethodforremovingallvisibleoil,grease,soil,drawingandcuttingcompounds,
andother
soluble
surface
contaminants.
It
is
intended
that
solvent
cleaningbeusedpriortotheapplicationofpaintandinconjunctionwithsurfacepreparationmethodsfortheremovalofrust,millscale,orpaint.Priortosolventcleaning,removeanyheavydepositsofoil,grease,etc.,withascraper.Removeremainingoil,grease,etc.,bywiping/scrubbing

Handtoolcleaningwillremoveonlylooseorloosely
adheringsurfacecontaminants,includingrustscale,
loosemill
scale,
loose
rust,
and
loosely
adhering
paint. Itisprimarilyrecommendedforspotcleaning
inareaswherecorrosionisnotaseriousfactor. SSPCSP2HANDTOOLCLEANING SP1mustbecompletedbefore
andafter! Removeallloosemillscale,looserustandotherdetrimentalforeignmatterwithnonpowerhandtools.UnderSSPCSP2itisnotintendedthatadherentmillscale,rust,andpaintberemovedbythis

scale,

are

they
