Re-viewing

Re-reading

Re-doing

Re-working

“The best form of revision involves the condensing

(shortening) and rewriting of your notes”

Condense your notes down into short memorable ‘bites’ – post

them on your wall in a logical order …

Mind Maps summarise your work in a personalised pictorial

way – draw your notes in a memorable way for you – the

pictures will help you to recall information at a later date

Convert what you need to remember into a short story – this will

help you to recall facts at a later date …

Record your notes and play them back to yourself frequently –

this helps you to recall information at a later date. Some say

playing notes back as you go to sleep helps as well. Create

Podcasts and MP3s

Try things and find out what works best for you!!??

Be specific!

Don’t get distracted! (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat …)

Don’t just play games! (even if they are “educational”)

Do listen to music (if this helps you to concentrate)

Give yourself a set time

Check you have learnt something – test yourself

Not all revision can be done on the internet!!

Make sure you know when your assessments are!!

Bring the right equipment …

See-through pencil case or clear plastic bag

No mobile phones

Bottle of water (no label)

Have something to eat and drink before your assessments

RE-VIEW, RE-READ, RE-DO, RE-WORK!!!

Do a minimum of 1 hours work each night during revision weeks

Give up a few things for a week to maximise your chances of

success (x-box, going out …)

Doing “OK” is not enough these days – it’s a competitive world –

Sixth Form places / Apprenticeships / Jobs are harder to come by –

AIM HIGH!!!

You don’t get anything for nothing in life – GRAFT!!!

Provide a quiet space to work in

Help to organise

Talk about revision and work being done

Attendance and Behaviour

Raise Your Chances!Get your attendance

right!What does “Good attendance” mean?

This is Mandy. She is in Year 7 and has 90% attendance.

Is that good?

What does this mean?

Mandy thinks this is pretty good, so do her parents. Are they right?

90% attendance = ½ day missed every week!!

Mon Tue Wed Thur Fri

?

Absent half a day every week

Lets look a little closer…..

1 school year at 90% attendance = 4 whole

weeks of lessons MISSED!!!

38 school weeks

Sept July

?

Absent for 4 weeks

90% attendance over 5 years of secondary school….

= ½ a school year missed!

Sept July

Y7

Y8

Y9 ½ a year absent from school

Y10

Y11

What impact might this have on Mandy’s life……?

Research suggests that 17 missed school days a

year = a GCSE grade DROP in achievement. (DfES)

The greater the attendance the greater the attainment.
