TRANSCRIPT
Alive and Well
My mother’s garden was spectacular, filled with
beans, peppers, rhubarb (which I did not appreciate
when I was young), corn, and squash. Getting to the
beautiful, tasty, and wholesome end products required
planning and work. We are entering the time of year
when “alive and well” is the goal of every farmer and
gardener. It is also a critical time of year for Christian
vitality.
In the hustle and bustle that is spring and
summer, we, like the rest of God’s creation, celebrate
the freedom that comes with warm weather and long
stretches of sunlight. The smells, the “green” all
around, and summer schedules invite all of us to get
out and enjoy. As we weed, water, and watch things
grow, I hope we will also take time to cultivate God’s
plantings of faith and other spiritual fruit.
It was not until my college days that I began to
realize that God’s life is alive. Before that time religion
in general and Christianity in particular seemed to me
to be a set of rules and routines. If you were “spiritual,”
I thought, you did certain religious things and avoided
things that didn’t fit the stereotype. I assumed following
Christ was primarily a matter of looking good. It took
some major shake ups in my life to reveal that living a
life on the outside, is not the same as being alive and
growing deep inside and underneath, in our heart by
faith. Most healthy and nourishing things begin with a
seed that takes root, grows, and
finally bears fruit.

The Presbyterian Church
of Prospect is
a Confessing Church.
What is a Confessing Presbyterian Church? It is a church which announces to the world that it be-
lieves in:
1. Jesus Christ as the Lord of all and
the only way of salvation.
2. The Bible as the only certain guide
to faith and life.
3. God’s call to his people to live a holy life in every aspect, as the Bible defines that life.

We will partner with local churches and commu-nity organizations to journey towards believing that God is in control. We will help one another witness their faith by striving to grow in unity through regular listening, dwelling in the word, prayer, and Bible stud-ies, so we may help people see God’s work in daily social issues.

Continued from Page 1
Somewhere along the way people have developed the idea that
things like faith, compassion, love, self-control, joy, peace, patience, and
goodness are characteristics that humans can create and attach to their
lives all by themselves. According to the Scriptures, these traits are fruit of
a life planted by and in Christ, and watered by the power and presence of
the Holy Spirit. That explains why the absence or weakness of these
things in our lives ultimately brings us back to the root of the matter: being
alive through the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by the gift of grace.
As you eagerly plant things and diligently water them this month, I
invite you to eagerly seek and surrender to God’s watering, to his
weeding, and to his wonderful life that is a gift through faith in Jesus.
Later in the newsletter is a packet of Bible readings; seeds from God for
you to plant in your heart and mind. And as we gather this summer in
worship and in other times together, may we celebrate the Good News,
that in the Son we are alive and well.
Happy Growing,
Pastor Steve

The Good Friday Brunch was an overwhelming success! Many thanks to all who attended, helped in any way, donated supplies and offered prayers for this special time of fellowship.
Because of the great response, SAVE THE DATE for next year. We welcome any feedback and look forward to serving this brunch next year to our members, guests and all those who just walk in that day for a good breakfast!

Christ the King Church has moved into a new space, rented from the city of Karlovac. Time as been spent painting and renovating. The chairs were paid for by pennies collected by the children of the Presbyterian Church of Prospect.
Leasure Shay Fire Benefit
Alicia Shay and Paul Leasure lost their home in a fire
at Rock Falls Park on Labor Day 2016. It was a total loss. They are struggling to make ends meet then and now with no in-surance money from the fire, they find themselves to be homeless. Their tempo-rary home (a camper trailor) will not be
available to them effective June1st.
A “free will” offering and pot luck community picnic benefit at Rock Falls Park will be held June 3rd from noon—8 pm. Lunch to be served at 2 pm. They are hoping to raise enough money to get the ashes and re-mains cleaned up so they can rebuild and
start over.
All are invited to come and enjoy a fun day, creek side camping is available for those interested. There will be a Chinese Auction, 50/50 raffle, and music. For more info, call
724-406-9371
The Deacons are collecting items for their annual Rummage Sale held in August 4th & 5th. Please place your items in Nursery Room #102 (across the hall from the choir room). All items must be carried down to this room. Please do not leave any items in the Fellow-ship Hall or entry.
